Once while assigned to cover the grand opening of a planetarium I had the chance to meet James Earl Jones. The actor lent his voice to the narration of the facility dedicated to Christa McAuliffe the teacher who dies on the Challenger explosion. During the press conference I asked about his body of work from the Great White Hope to Mustafa in Lion King and their impact on viewer. Turning towards me, and squinting he paused for what seemed to be lifetime before responding. Later during a tour of the building he paused to thank me for the question and commented that initially he thought that I was trying to immitate his basso profundo. After a brief conversation he told me to forget radio news and persue voiceover work, laughing merrily at my offer to replace him when he retired as the voice of CNN.
My broadcast career included work in commercial production and copywriting, in studio recording, on air work as a DJ, News Anchor and in sports. After leaving the business I have worked with a number of small studios and video production companies narrating demos, corporate projects, demos for television shows in addition to dozens of commercials.
