The best story I have is how I got my first commercial. I was looking for jobs for 3 years after graduation College and a friend called me and asked if I found a job in the business yet. I told her I hadn't. She told me about a great opportunity that was opeing up and that I should call. So I did. We went to the radio studio and the PM asked me to read a commercial for a church client. I read the script and at the time the PM was recording me. When I was finished, he said, "I want to see what your voice sounds like set to music. " I said, "Sure! Go for it!" He did. He like it so much that he put it in the line up. He said, "I'm going to run this commercial as is. When can you start?" I started the next day. I worked for that station for 3 months until station went into complete automation and then 2 months later I got another radio job that I had for five years.
While I worked for this station, WGBN AM 1150, I was a part of the morning show, until I was moved to afternoons and then eventually move to afternoon drive time. I was the PSA director, promotions assistant and network traffics director.
