Ben Hurst

Movie Trailer, Promo, Character, Warm, Storyteller

Voice Description

I have a good range, from baritone movie trailer to energetic promo and commercial reader. My voice is smooth and warm when needed for narration and book reads and I can produce an edge for harder hitting scripts.

I can do a number of distinct and fun characters, including about 6 comedic old men voices that sound authentic, yet are filled with personality, similar to the voice affected by Hal Holbrook in "Mark Twain Tonight."

I can do all the "gollum-dudley do right" variations as well as edgy, brassy wise-ass characters. I can do menacing characters and can approximate Pat Buttrum's reads, since I have a split falsetto similar to his (two simultaneous voices). I also have a voice that resembles Yosemite Sam, over-the-top and gritty.

I have been told that I have a good voice of sutble, but distinct authority. My voice is approachable. It is trained to be very easy to listen to.

I have excellent diction and a great corporate sound for both narration and for IVR, voicemail, phone systems and on-hold services. I can also do indoor and outdoor announce systems for theme parks and museums.

I am also a proficient live announcer for large events, including Awards Ceremonies and corporate presentations.

My Voice Experience

I was a disc jockey and cartoon voice artist early in my life, then, I had a 30 year career as a writer. Now, I'm back. In the interim, producers who knew my voice brought me in on some great projects: 7-UP, Nike's "Just Do It" national radio campaign, multiple voices on the "This is not your father's Oldsmobile" campaign, amongst others. I've also done creature and character performances for a major fantasy adventure film. I signed a non-disclosure agreement, but when it's be released, I'll be able to proudly update this.

Most recently, I've done a number of scratch tracks for trailer houses for the movies "Spiderwick Chronicles" and "In the Hood", did a Visa commercial, industrial narrations, corporate phone messages and other interesting and modestly lucrative industrial projects.

I also was the live announcer for Chapman University's Dodge Film School's Student Film Awards. Formatted and structured just like the Academy Awards. Not only was I well received (they listed me in the program as "Voice of God") but I also had the time of my life.

My Training

I attend a number of Voice Over Workout Groups.

I've taken some amazing classes at Kalmenson & Kalmenson, and attended Joyce Castellanos' Promo and Trailer Workshops.

I was a theater major in College for the first two years and became a Radio-TV-Film major for the second half.

My Studio Equipment

I have a full production studio. I have a booth equipped with a Sennheiser 416. I am computer and internet proficient.

I have won Clio and Silver Microphone awards for my audio production and have professionally written over 2000 radio commercials for both local and National clients.

I am also experienced and proficient in directing voice over.

Additional Skills

I can produce audio demos for voice over clients and any audio related project from sound tracks for corporate presentations to radio commercials and shows.
