My name is Ivan Orozco. I am currently furthering my education in Science in Criminal Justice because I am seeking a career in a three letter agency, in order to be accepted I must meet their requirement of obtaining a Bachelor's degree. I am currently a Police officer and have been for four years, but before I became one it all started here in Colorado Technical University in the year 2010. I graduated with my science in criminal justice associates degree in 2012, and upon graduating I immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I was a forward reconnaissance infantryman with 1st Light armored recon battalion. I moved up the ranks pretty quickly and deployed with my crew in 2015 with the 15th marine expeditionary unit.
1st LAR participated in 15 different security operations including combined arms and desert survival training with French forces in Djibouti, the Malaysia-US Amphibious exercise, Combined Afloat Readiness and Training in Brunei. While on the MEU, me and the rest of the marines maintained a high level of combat readiness throughout the deployment by executing sustainment training in Kuwait, DJibouti, and Jordan. While conducting training in Kuwait, the MEU was also flying us in as support for Operation Inherent Resolve. The MEU flew 500 combat hours that resulted in 36 strikes against Da’esh positions, equipment, and personnel.
The Da’esh is a terrorist group that attacked local security forces with automatic weapons and suicide bombers. In June the USS Rushmore and my ship the USS Anchorage embarked recon marines rescuing a group of Indonesian sailors from a sinking vessel in the Sulawesi Strait. In mid december I returned to Camp Pendleton, Ca, was promoted to Corporal and selected to be part of the Area guard. I passed a two week course with the provost marshal and corrections in order to conduct duties as an area guard marine. One year later I returned to my old platoon and was the acting platoon sergeant.
In 2017 I deployed once again to Kuwait where I conducted security operations and convoys to Iraq. during my time in Kuwait experienced isis attacks and a bombing in Kuwait city. My time in Kuwait there were many deaths and injuries to civilians, government personnel and the military. I returned home and was discharged honorably and immediately began my process to become a police officer.
The Process was long, especially the background check but once everything was cleared I pushed through the Police Academy in Miramar, Ca and graduated 6 months later. I was to report to my designated Department in two days and started my FTO portion as a new officer. The Field training evolution training is to new officers the functions or ins and outs as a solo beat officer. The training cycle consisted of 18 weeks of intensive on the job training and daily performances.
The training was conducted by the department's staffed Field Training Officers and Training Sergeants. Once I passed all the requirements I was on my own and have been ever since. In my time as an officer I have dealt with many calls from domestics, emergency calls to backup officers in fights, drugs found in commercial trucks, trespassers, people with warrants and ect. Now this year I would like to finish my education by completing my degree to continue to move up in my career field. The life as a police officer is not that different from being in the infantry, I am just proud that I am still able to serve my country.
