My Voice Experience

In January 2015, while employed with the City of Kansas City, Missouri, I was accepted into the Mayor's Mentorship Pilot Program under the direction of the 1st District-at- Large City Councilman City Aide. While working as a Customer Service Rep. in our 311 Action Center Dept. which is the core of the City of KC for all crisis and escalated complaints/concerns. I was presented with an opportunity from the councilman to apply for as a Mentee. I've been active in our Urban Core which was noted and my ranking amongst my peers for quality Customer Care in my dept. for exhibiting professionalism as well as receiving commendations from satisfied citizens and internal employees/management. During the process, I submitted a questionnaire form and an essay which I addressed and shared the benefits of my acceptance into the program. I was honored to get in the program and continuously have a good repore with the City Council Aide and our community. Additionally, I gained enhanced skills and experience in Leadership, Public Speaking, Networking and Community Involvement.
My experience and training while working in the 311 Action Center we were trained to follow several scripts which entailed pertinent information for different depts. (Municipal Courts, Neighborhood and Preservation, Mayor's Office, KC Police Department Dispatch, etc.) to remain in compliance with local government policy/administration. Importantly, we were able to add our personal flare to connect with the citizen as long as we remained professional and reached our goal to assist the public in a timely manner. I had to "wear a many different hats" and the challenge was daily!! I was pleased to meet my goal and consistently ranked within the top 3 monthly with my peers for quality of work, handling calls and always present.
With American Express there were various scripts for business travelers which held several entitlements and were very empowered. The importance was to familiarize yourself with their profile; from meeting and hotel locations, to the food preference. I developed the ability to personalize the script. I'd go above and beyond to satisfy their request or demand. I would share while landing into a city the forecast and exciting events that were scheduled during their stay similar to a concierge. I did receive Agent of the Quarter for building lasting relationships with the clientele. What a challenge and a pleasure to be in the public relation field. Sometimes you get to accomplish task that put a smile on your face and remain with you. I've had experiences that matured me, gave me nurturing qualities, wisdom, patience for sure and even sometimes just a sounding board. As I move forward with Voice 123, I look forward to discovering all the opportunities that I can be instrumental and we all be winners.

I enjoy storytelling, ongoing projects with the youth, some are at-risk youth in the community. So their attention span must be captured within the beginning phase of the presentation. I believe I keep their interest with the topic that concern their desires or needs.
