Rob Walker

Experienced performer, controlled sibilance, tenor

Voice Description

Playfully adaptable, creative and collaborative. My first training is in theatre and I love creating characters, their stories and environments. My voice is a tenor range. I speak with some nasality and a controllable sibilance. Experienced playing multiple characters on stage. For the professional Chemainus Theatre Company, I doubled as the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and Little John for a musical of Robin Hood... Oh yeah.... I can carry a tune in a bucket too.

My Voice Experience

Directing, coaching, and writing since I moved away from my starving artist phase. In the last two years I have produced original musicals with my senior students.

My signature assignment is the Vocal Masque. A defined time frame where a minimum of 10 vocal explorations must be shared. Solo performance and all characters must support a central theme.

I may produce an actual résumé again, but please, hear the demo. If you don't hear what you want, shoot me a mail and I'll throw you a file for your consideration.

I am fun, I know how to take direction and I have range, so lets play.

Warm Regards,

Rob Walker

My Training

I am currently a Drama, Film&TV teacher at the secondary level in the public school system. The focus of my work is understanding your voice-body connection and how to 'stand and deliver'. As my students gain experience I lead them to the understanding that any character is created by the choices you make in performance. My secondary school competes in the Canadian Improv Games and has consistently, for the last 8 seasons finished the Regional Tournament in the top 5 of 30+ teams. In 2013, these students earned the right to represent BC-Lower Mainland in Ottawa for the National Tournament.

I have experienced a variety of workshops focusing on character's objective, storytelling and performance for both stage and screen. Selected sessions include: Trevor Duvall, Andrew McIlroy, Simon Longmore of VADA, Warren Robertson, Marco Soriano

I have a B. Fine Arts Theatre with an acting major from University of Victoria (1998) and a B. Education - intermediate grade focus from University of British Columbia.

My Studio Equipment

H4N Zoom recording machine. Apple suite.

Additional Skills

I am now a teacher and father of 3. I grew up in the back halls of a hotel (Dad was owner and single father). Survival jobs to support my acting career and supplement my teacher salary include: construction labour/ carpentry; hotel desk, catering and kitchen; Audio Visual freelance technician; programme & workshop coordinator (acting and English as Second Language camps)
