My Voice Experience

I am a fresh face to the world of voice-overs, but at the age of sixty, I am an experienced voice in the world of live and recorded communication. Voice-overs are just a logical extension for my well-worn performance skills of speaking and singing, live and recorded for adults and young children. My extensive experience in both the service side and the creative artist side of the music industry, melded with my blue collar experience of tractor trailer driving and auto mechanics, have ingrained in me a complete and thorough understanding of the concept of service. Just as importantly, I have worked with people from all walks of life quite comfortably and successfully, whether I was interacting with a group of kindergartners in the classroom or dealing with a shipping clerk on the piers in Baltimore. Young, middle-aged, and seniors: I've performed for them all.

When customizing a service for a client I listen and take direction well, incorporating client needs and ideas, while offering ideas of my own from personal experience. I have extensive experience with designing custom arts in education programs for schools, which have often consisted of narrowly targeted song writing projects with or for students, which dove tailed with curriculum. As part of that process I'd routinely record customized music CDs for rehearsal purposes, sometimes also with the spoken word to direct students. Many projects were recorded during live performances, which I processed and edited to produce finished product to sell to students and families as a fund raising tool. My recording and editing methods have been computer based for about fifteen years. I am game to try new things at the customer's request, but not afraid to turn down work I don't believe I am suited for. It is my sincere desire to develop client relationships with an eye on the long term. Since I'm confident in my abilities, I don't promise anything I'm not sure I can deliver and it is my work ethic to say what I'll do and then do what I say.

Additional Skills

Hudson Valley Community College – Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics
Ryder Tractor Trailer School – Certified Class A Driver

While certainly, at first glance, auto mechanics and tractor trailer driving don't appear to be related, even remotely, to voice-overs, those two occupations were a wealth of invaluable life skills experiences. I credit them with my early experience with working insanely long hard hours, learning how equipment works, learning how to diagnose and correct problems, tenaciously sticking with a difficult problem to get it solved, and learning how to get along with clients while either they or I were tired, cranky, and hungry!

As a more related benefit to voice-over work, I'm quite familiar and at home with the automotive and trucking industry jargon that could be handy in future projects.
