Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Mike Myers type Scottish, Jim Carey style cartoon, William Shatner, Sid lateral lisp from Ice Age, Russian, Velvet Jones frontal lisp, southern (North Carolina), redneck, New Orleans, able to mimmick pretty much any dialect/tone I can hear.

My Voice Experience

I think I developed this talent having to entertain myself playing with my G.I.Joe and Star Wars toys. Through grade school and middle school i was always the one eager to read aloud in class, because none of the other students put any emotion into the reading, let alone giving the different characters different voices! I think my first character voice over job was in sixth grade; I was the only one who could do the vampire-transilvanian accent for our class slide show.
I has always been a mimmick. After listening to or speaking with somebody with any kind of a dialect or accent, be it ghetto, British, mexican, whatever, i find myself trying to Not adopt their way of speaking, so they don't think i'm making fun of them.
Actually I think this is what helps me as a teacher, in a lot of ways.

My Training

I have been learning by doing on and around the stage really since 4th grade. In 1998 I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Performance from University of South Florida, which naturally included tons of vocal training for all kinds of performance, including training vocally with Fanny Greene. On the technical side I also focused on sound engineering. After my first round of college I continued to do some community theatre and attend local workshops while keeping the bills paid with various day jobs, including personal trainer, contract employee for Success Events International, and teaching dance.

My Studio Equipment

Being a high-school drama teacher, I do have access to a Mackie 36 channel mixer and some pretty decent sound quality equipment. I ususally use my own laptop and software (Audacity usually, but i do have Adobe Soundbooth CS4).

Additional Skills

I got into acting and performance because of its ability to afford me the chance to and reason for acquiring all different types of experiences. Other jobs I've had in search of those experiences include: customer service (over the phone) for Verizon DSL (retention department - NOT EASY!!!) and Nokia; contract employee for Success Events International, a motivational speaker group (learned tons about public speaking, including some non-examples); Certified Personal Trainer for Lifestyle Family Fitness; dance teacher for several local studios (starting boys dance curriculum at each). I did do some college radio over a couple of semesters on a friend's radio show - FLYday night jams with BC Clark and Steve.
