Spencer Klavan

Narrator, Deep, Classic, Manly, Guy Next Door

Voice Description

My voice is a deep male bass with a warm tone for narrations and audiobooks, powerful and sexy for commercials and voiceovers, strong and assuring for professional presentations, with an "everyman" feel for character work. I can also switch to a lighter, sassy tone with a wry sense of humor for comedies and commercials.

My Voice Experience

Ever since my voice changed, friends and acquaintances have sought me out for voice-over work in their media projects. I have a great deal of experience recording audiobooks with RFB&D (Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic) as a volunteer in my hometown of Santa Barbara, but more recently (starting in 2009 and onwards) I have been called upon to narrate video projects. As a senior in High School I was asked to narrate a video about an educational trip to Laos and Cambodia, and also to recite poetry for various school events and functions, and for the Santa Barbara City Council (see sample video from a recitation contest here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byh5ANbHzko). Most recently, I was asked by Yale University's Sex Education team to narrate their video encouraging STI testing on campus (the link to the video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UilEVQt4VTY).
In general, I am called upon for classic narrator work, but my acting training also makes me an ideal candidate for character work and commercial voiceovers. I have also been called upon to perform for announcements of theatrical performances on local radio. I have never recorded professionally, but am now interested in doing more paid work.

My Training

8 weeks of pure voice training at LAMDA (London Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts): Summer 2011

2 years of various classes, including basic and intermediate acting and advanced performance, at Yale University: Fall 2010 - present

1.5 years of classical singing lessons: Fall 2011 - present

5 weeks of voice and movement training at NHSI at Northwestern University: Summer 2008

My Studio Equipment

I am very nearby a studio which features an industry-standard Protools setup, an entirely enclosed room-in-room design, and tunable walls.

Additional Skills

I have spent all of my time for the past 8 years involved in some kind of performance project. In particular, I have spent a large amount of time performing with Redhot & Blue, Yale's oldest co-ed a cappella group, and was recently tapped into the Yale Whiffenpoofs, the oldest collegiate a cappella group in the United States. Thus I have consistently trained and used my voice both musically and non-musically in a performative setting for all of my adult and young adult life.
