My Training

Bachelor of Arts, State University of New York at Oswego. Major: Communications Studies, concentration in Broadcasting.

I started reading in church and a lot of people said "You have a nice voice." I was also a singer in my school choir. At about the same time I discovered the magic of a reel to reel tape recorder and I began taping songs and being the announcer. I also sang with the chorus in elementary, high school and college and received some vocal training.

When I got to college I read news for campus radio, joined college choir and in between my first and second years I landed a job at the local radio station and began to develop my style. I enrolled in radio production and learned some valuable techniques that I used in my part time radio job. In my third year I did an unpaid radio shift at the campus NPR affiliate, in my senior year I interned in their news department, produced news packages, anchored the midday report and did all kinds of interviews. I wrote my own news reports and began to sell and write commercials in my pt job.

I continued to learn and grow and my pt job turned into full time news.
I gained more experience in voicing commercials with others and writing commercials during a job in the Hudson Valley.
Announcing in a pop music genre, news, commercial writing and production added to my creativity at a small AM station near the New York capital.
Announcing in a classical music genre and my first experience with digital recording and editing added to my expertise at a PBS station in the capital region.
Employment with the renewed AM station in a talk format brought more experience in writing and producing commercials as well as producing and call screening.

Current employment part time in a Christian format is adding to my knowledge in vocal production of weather forecasts, voice tracking elements and promos.
