Paul Hodgson

Character and accent/dialect specialist

Voice Description

My stage training and experience produces a very resonant voice, with a baritone range most comfortable. However, my acting training means that if you want breathy and light, I can do that as well. My narration is typically warm, emotional and deep, while character voices are developed from a character study, textual clues and other evidence.

Prior to that I worked for the BBC in London on a number of projects from radio drama to poetry reading. In addition, I have done a number of training video voiceovers for Post Office Editorial.

My Training

I have a BA Hons in English Language and Literature from Durham University in England, and an MFA in Performance from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Wales. I was chosen for voice training by David Gwesyn-Smith (a professional opera singer) while training there. My first professional role was as a clarinet-playing bandleader in a show for a small touring company in London. I am currently the artistic director of a professional theatre company based in midcoast Maine - the Everyman Repertory Theatre - where I both direct, produce and perform in our productions. I also work as a freelance writer. I have a regular column with Responsible Investor Magazine, Fortune and on Motley Fool's website, and I have had several plays professionally produced, one at the National Theatre of Wales, Sherman Theatre.
