Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Southeastern accents a specialty, from trailer trash to the belle of the cotillion ball, Paula Deen, Steel Magnolias, Bubbles the Bronx Bimbo (imagine 1940's big hair and bubblegum Cyndi Lauper, cartoon voices, South Park female type, best ages voiced young adult to Grandmothers.

My Voice Experience

I began in radio at age 16, working at a little local radio station in South Carolina. Since then my career has spanned over 35 years of voice work, including everything from news reporting to radio commercials, radio talk shows, on-air personality work, voiceovers for tv commercials, audiobook recording, poetry recordings, and local theater work. My character work in radio has brought awards for original voices as well as copywriting and producing. I am a veteran with a professional voice. Some of my favorite work involved a series of commercials for a nightclub, where I played the voice of Bubbles the Secretary, a Bronx-accent gum-chewing second banana to a 1940's private investigator. This series drew local awards and had a very fervent following among the listeners.. a little soap opera.

I have done on-air characters for years, including "Savannah Stevens", a cute country blonde bimbo with a heart of gold and a voice that's poured straight from a jar of molasses - I was so convincing as Savannah that men were sending flowers to the radio station believing she was a real person - she was, only she didn't even like country music and the only cowgirl outfit she ever wore was when she was five years old and didn't have a choice.

I have reported for Mutual/NBC Radio News during the first Clinton Administration, and have interviewed many celebrities including Jimmy Connors, Billy Joel and The Moody Blues. I spent most of my career in the South Carolina area.

I have worked the following radio formats, with appropriate voice inflection for each: Classic Rock, Adult Contemporary, Oldies, Contemporary Hit Radio, The Music of Your Life, Big Bands, Jazz, Classic Country, New Country, Christian Rock, Talk radio, news radio.

My Training

I have been working in radio stations since I was a teenager, having first begun in the National Forensics Club in high school doing radio speaking and taking the highest honors for the state. I studied communications at the University of South Carolina and received private voice lessons in dialects and accents during my employment at WAFL-FM/WYUS-AM in Delaware. During the 1990's I partnered with Franz Russell to form Lowcountry Sounds, which supplied voiceovers for commercials, national and local, as well as voiceovers for documentaries and television.

My Studio Equipment

Studio work is done at WORG-FM's studios in Orangeburg, SC, recording digitally using Dave Scott Studios equipment and software. All voiceover work is available via email or cd, with ftp upload ability as well. In-home studio has also been added, allowing for up to the minute voice work with 24/7 turnaround.

Additional Skills

I have been using my voice to make a living since I was a teenager. From on-air radio to radio production, I have always been happiest running my mouth for money. Born with a strong, deep contralto female voice, I have been told that it has a unique sound that makes everyone stop to listen. Years of radio have trained me to use it in different ways, from British accented characters to deeply southern voices. I am also very familiar with business voiceovers for phone tree Voice Response Units and have done voicing for business presentations. I am a book lover and have also voiced audiobooks as well as live and recorded poetry readings.
