Michael Kaiser

Energetic, Friendly, Character Specialist, Offbeat

Voice Description

I use my voice in many different ways. Being a life-long lover of audio - whether standard music radio D.J. format, records, audio books, or audio theater, I have studied and worked to emulate recordings. With that said, mimicking voices and delivery, coupled with over 25 years of singing and playing with bands, I have developed many variations of vocal delivery. For my podcast I employ a highly energetic vocal style reminiscent of radio disc jockeys of the 50's and 60's - over the top, fast, and off-beat. For "adult contemporary" needs I use a warm, soft inflection with bassier tones to produce that "smooth jazz" type effect. By enunciating words clearly with minimal vocal inflections I am able to create the classic "information" vocal track - the "just the facts, ma'am" type of audio you would hear at the airport telling you that the white zone is for loading and unloading, etc. Character acting is a particular favorite of mine, especially comic voices: southern drawls, Spanish lovers, cartoon voices, British Cockney ("running up the apples and pears to see me trouble and strife"), and many more.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

California beach-city "dude, man that wave was gnarly", Southern "boy howdy! I hopped on my tractor an' went on down to the Hen House Cafe...", Texas "good ol' boy", British Cockney riff-raff, Australian Crocodile Hunter styled "one bite of this lil' sheila could kill a hundred blokes", Spanish Don Juans - suave and exotic, Over the top 50's and 60's style radio D.J., Warm and Silky "smooth jazz/easy listening" announcers... Pretty much any character that you can think of I have a variation of; not particular actors - I'm not much for impersonations, but comic roles of all kinds have been a particular study of mine.

My Voice Experience

I am the producer and host of RadiOblivion on the GaragePunk Podcast Network; the largest network of it's kind in the world. I have been producing the show since Nov. 2005. It is now up to the 52th episode with over 200,000 total downloads. RadiOblivion is done in a standard music radio show format, much in the style and spirit of programs from the 50's and 60's. My D.J. style is based on some of the legends of radio including Wolfman Jack, Dewey Philips, the Mad Daddy, and others. Fast paced, "hip", silly, and fun is the Modus Operandi of RadiOblivion. I do the show without a script and create commercials for it. I have guest hosted on a few radio shows as well, including KPFK Nation Public Radio in Los Angeles. I have sung and played guitar in bands for over 25 years, and in that time have constantly trained to control my voice.

My Training

I am a recording engineer by trade, spending two years at Love Juice Labs in California after an internship. In that time I was the most requested tracking engineer for the studio's five locations. This translated into an average of 50-70 hours per week working in the studio; at times I would put in 80 hours per week. Before that I interned at Studio 143 in California. Being a singer, I have trained with vocal coaches and have in turn tutored vocalists in the recording studio.
