Voice Description

I am a trained classical singer, tenor, with baritone resonance. My characterizations are developed with a well founded technique for added or decreased resonance, volume and breath support.

Younger characters (Children) brighter and higher pitched - slightly pinched to create baby voices.

Teenagers (mixing in more open sound with lower abdominal support for baritones, and slightly less abdominal support to create a higher pitched juvenile male.

I did a voice over for an independent Xbox game, which ended up sounding somewhat like Sean Connery. One reason I got the gig was that I am fluent in Japanese, and the character required Japanese ability, but the script hadn't been translated for that yet. I did the translation and provided both the audio and text.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Female voices. I have a fairly well developed vocal falsetto, which rivals mezzo-soprano/soprano singing voices. I can carry this into spoken tones, which might best suit a voice character of middle or senior age, although I've produced vocal readings for female voices of 20's to 30's as well.

I am able to produce sounds for smooth cultured narrations in standard English, to the opposite end of the spectrum with throated guttural speech and accents from the southern Unites States country sounds, to cultured British/Cockney dialects, Germanic, French, Italian and zany 'alien' voices.
Near native speaking ability in Japanese. I lived in Japan two years and taught Japanese for more than 15 years. (High School, Community College & Corporation)

As a vocal coach and talent scout, I coach singers in standard English, German, French, Italian and Latin, but also in country, alternative, street, folk, new age, and other genres.

I can produce similar accents and dialects in spoken language.

I've lived in Charleston S.C., Biloxi, Mississippi, The Philippine Islands, California, Utah, Japan and Germany.

I am married to a naturalized American citizen born and raised in England, who has coached me on various accents from the British Isles. The exposure to living in these various locations, with the aid of my ear and talent for mimicry has given me a substantial internal vocal and verbal library of use for my voice.

I'm well versed in musical theater, sang professionally with the Indianapolis Opera Company for seven seasons, have a substantial music, opera, musical theater library and sound effects library. From singing to speaking, I offer an all around talent, which I've used on stage, in film, recording with AFRTS in the 1970's, and in voice over work.

I worked with a director once who used to say that he had forgotten more about theater than most of us knew. I have come to realize that with my years of background in arts and entertainment, theater, vocal music, Japanese language acquisition and education I am fairly comfortable in saying the same thing as I have tried to piece together this application for V123 voice overs. I bring every aspect of my positive nature, desire to exceed expectations, and performance skills from directing, conducting, character portrayals, studio, stage and film work, as well as coaching and scouting to each project I undertake. My entire focus is to make a production or project look great. In doing so, I recognize that I have done my part and will likely be considered for future work.
