warm, articulate, instructive, dramatic, funny
My 'natural' voice is a warm, rich baritone. While I have employed that voice thousands of times in straight-read commercial, corporate and e-learning projects, I am also able to go way 'over-the-top'! I am a vocal chameleon, capable of wearing many, many different hats. I speak English and have been paid many times over the years to employ many different dialects and characters. I am originally a Native New Yorker, and the Noo Yawk accent 'comes easy'for me-especially a New York Wiseguy voice! I have also voiced a wide range of animals and assorted inanimate objects! Demo, containing extensive, individual audio samples, available upon request.
Also (whew!) I am a working, professional singer! I am capable of emulating the style, sound, delivery and essence of many famous singers.from Elvis to Sinatra, Van Morrison to Dean Martin, Tony Bennett to Joe Cocker; heartfelt crooning to ballsy rasping!
Singing standards, blues, rock and roll, pop, even bossa novas in Portuguese!

My Voice Experience
To quote from my website:
Voiceman is Michael Ciulla (say: Choola). That’s Me!
I’ve done thousands of voiceovers-for the big guys (nationals) and the not-so-big guys…on radio, television, cyberspace, and scores of corporate and industrial productions.
I’ve been heard in museums, recorded books, even inside toys!
Shucks, you’ve probably seen me many times on NBC’s ‘Law and Order’ telling Lieutenant Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) “I told ya-I don’t know nuttin’!”
I have represented many corporate clients as an on-camera host. I've also performed many leading roles in theatrical productions from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams; Gilbert and Sullivan to Lerner and Lowe; Tom Stoppard to Luigi Pirandello. My theatrical training and experience provide a great resource and 'skillset' for my voice work.
I'd like to think that I bring a bit 'more' to the microphone...more than merely a voice-I am a voice actor.
I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, having appeared in major motion pictures as well as television.
I know something about copy, having written some rather lofty copy for all kinds of clients-
Ad agencies, production houses, corporations, institutions, etc.
I have promoted (and written all the copy, press releases and brochures) for The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade; produced and directed a video documentary for The Foundation for Economic Education; hosted many an industrial training video and written spots pitching lawn mowers, retirement communities-even cream cheese!
I have sung many a jingle and am currently the lead vocalist for two bands, Avalon Express and Good 2 Go. We have performed hundreds of gigs over the past few years, mostly in Connecticut, where I now reside. Our biggest client has been the Mohegan Sun Hotel and Convention Center, at which we have performed countless times for both private and public functions. We've seen many a black-tie affair; be it a fund-raiser, a corporate event or a wedding. Singing is the same as speaking-I just hold the notes longer!
Among my many clients are:
American Express, Advest, Aetna Insurance, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, AT&T, and lots of other A’s. (let’s get this over with)…RCA, ESPN, Stanley Tool, Spalding, Konica, Kelloggs, Curad, Hasbro, Friendly’s, Fox Television, Foxwoods, United Technologies, Sikorsky Aircraft, Columbia House Audio Books and well, you get the picture.
In the past two years, I have secured a great deal of instuctional/tutorial work, including a good deal of e-learning work for Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco, Noven, Novartis, Takeda, AARP, The Hartford, etc. Last year I voiced the provocative and somewhat controversial audiobook 'The Jesus Family Tomb' for Harper Audio.
June, 2009: I just completed voicing 'Field and Stream Magazine's Icons' for The Outdoor Channel, as well as providing narration for a World War I documentary, produced in conjunction with National Geographic magazine.
After receiving a B.S. in Theatre from SUNY Brockport, I moved to New York City and studied the Meisner technique at The Neighborhood Playhouse. Sanford Meisner himself would occasionally attend our classes. I studied under his protege, Bill Alderson. I continued my professional training through many other master classes in NYC taught by some of the biggest names in the business; A.J. Antoon, Martin Charnin, Otto Preminger, and others. For commercial work and voice training, I went on to study at Weist-Barron, and privately, with Ruth Franklin.
In recent years, I have taught voiceover, on-camera technique and public speaking classes, both privately and on college campuses.
My Studio Equipment
I have a very quiet, professional facility. A Neumann TLM 103 resides in my vocal booth. I do own several other fine microphones(Shure, Sennheiser, etc.), both condenser and dynamic. I have two computer/production systems in my workstations. I have the newest iMac; 24" monitor, 2.8 gHz processor, 2 gig of RAM, working in conjunction with Pro Tools, recording to an external Glyph hard drive. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse in the booth and also have a separate monitor inside the booth.Though I have several mic preamps, I usually record through the new Digidesign M-Box 2 Pro.
I also have a custom-built PC, also with plenty of processing power and RAM. I tend to most often utilize Sound Forge on this computer, along with an M-Audio Delta 1010. I have other mic preamps, including a Joe Meek VC1QS. I can record projects in different formats and can easily ftp files or e-mail files to my clients. Of course, burning Cd's is no problem. My finished files are pristine!
My greatest skill is my ability to take my work seriously _without_ taking myself too seriously.
Heck-it's not a skill, it's a committment!
As a producer/engineer, I tend to be rather demanding of myself: I like to send out files that are pristine. If you can simply 'drop it in', you will like me much more than bachelor #2.
Finally. I am a highly ethical feller! My word is my bond. I recognize that I am in the client-pleasing business. I take direction well.
If the mix ain’t to your liking, I'll adjust the herbs and spices.
If, after all is said and done, you decide you want a blonde guy with a small nose, I know a guy. I’ll give you his number.
