Mark Borison

Rich, quick wit, announcer, character specialist.

Voice Description

Rich, deep tones for narration--can also be well suited for audiobooks, professional presentations. I have perfected the movie trailer narrator voice and have found that I'm often accused (ha!) of being an announcer. I'm a high energy person and that also translates to my natural speech gait--particularly when combined with my quick wit and sharp tongue. I can be fun and over-the-top as needed, but also have the range to perform soft and soulful, while bringing much needed sex appeal to those projects. In regards to my normal speech, I've been likened to having speech patterns and styles comparable to Robert Downey Jr. and Vince Vaughn--both fast talkers with an acerbic wit.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I'm fairly well known for imitating basic caricatures of portions of the country. Living in Ohio means I get to spend my time around a lot of "country folk" so I can sneak in an out of the farm voice deftly; however, having been born and raised in the New York area, I understand the value of clear and exact pronunciation. To be totally honest, I would say that I understand characterizations better than I do specific dialects, but I am an impressive mimic and need only to hear something once to nail it down.

My Voice Experience

The bug bit me in college where I consistently read copy for anything our branch campus could ever need (radio advertisements, announcements within the buildings themselves, and later going to host a short-lived news broadcast for the school). While many of the jobs immediately following school came down to performing narration for local artist's documentaries or things as simple as short YouTube videos, I eventually came to host my own radio show (The Mark in the Morning) for Class X Radio, a local classic rock station where I reveled in rock music history, weird news, and getting clever with local performers as a means of promoting events in town.

My Training

A musician and singer by trade, I studied electronic media production at the University of Cincinnati through their 'eMedia' program. This is where my most formal training came from, allowing me to not only act as a voice actor but to actually produce most of the content I was involved in. I focused heavily on writing copy for advertisements and it was through chance (and mostly through another voice actor's laryngitis) that I got my first shot at reading copy. Beyond the schooling, as I mentioned earlier, I later hosted my own morning show on Class X Radio, a local classic rock station which further gave me a chance to improve my speaking abilities in a public forum.

My Studio Equipment

In home, I have access to a few condenser microphones running through a light version of ProTools for quick edits, or recording ideas for jingles and the like. I would say that while my recording skills are solid, I find my best work comes in the editing stages. I would be an invaluable asset in post-production.

Additional Skills

Singer, songwriter. I have some experience writing jingles for local businesses as well as performing them both recorded and live. I am proficient in writing natural sounding dialogue; while it sounds cliche, and saying it sounds cliche is a cliche in it of itself, I just GET people and know how to make them not sound stilted and awkward. I feel this is a talent that should be lauded, and would be particularly useful here.
