My Voice Experience

I was in grade school (around 10 or 12 years old) when I did my very first voice over. I auditioned to read the county area grade school lunch menu on the local radio station and won the part. I did some broadcasting for the Junior/Senior High School in my hometown in Indiana.

I relocated to Florida and in 1983, my early twenties, I became a DJ for WFUZ-93.7 FM in Ocala, Florida for about a year and a half.

I then left radio, entered the television arena and became the primary female voice for the local cable station in Marion County, Florida for approximately 7 years.

In the early '90s I got divorced, left the industry completely and entered an entirely different line of work. Unfortunately, circumstances prevented me from obtaining any copies of voiceovers from those days. However, after recently recording some non-polished examples of what I can do, the recording engineer encouraged me to seek employment in this industry once again.

Now I choose to return with a great deal more enthusiasm and a desire to explore other forms of voice characterizations.

My Training

Adjunct my above experience, I was also a professional singer, jingle artist, and writer. None of my training was through conventional means. All of my vocal training began with my mother who was a voice teacher and coached me from a very early age. She always insisted she never taught me how to sing, only encouraged, and that my natural singing ability included an ear for mimicry and accents.

My Studio Equipment

I have access to a few different studios. However, since I have been absent from the profession for a number of years, I realize I must re-acquaint myself with modern audio engineering. After landing a few audio gigs, my goal is to learn all I can about it, afford my own equipment and join the new media generation with confidence.

Additional Skills

I am articulate, learn quickly, write well. Although I am a bit rusty, I can role-play and radio taught me how to think fairly quickly on my feet. Moreover, I love songwriting and deeply enjoy the creative process.

I have had years experience in retail, sales, office administration, including accounting; accounts payable/receivable. I am self-taught in computer operations, have actually fixed my own computers and can usually figure out the software, although admittedly some of the software programs leave me scratching my head.

I am not afraid of learning new ways to achieve any goal.
