Les is a native Floridian, raised in the Middle East and North Africa. An Emmy Award winning journalist, he began his 40 year career at WSGN Radio in Birmingham, Al. He joined United Press International in North Carolina and went on to cover the Black September Terrorist attack at the XXth Olympiad in Munich, Germany.
Four years later he joined the I-TEAM, the investigative reporting unit at WBZ TV4, Boston, where he received his first EMMY. In 1978 he was named RKO Network’s first White House Correspondent, covering the Carter and Reagan Administrations. Les moved to CBS News in 1984, covering the Middle East, including the Lebanese conflict and the Hajj in Saudi Arabia. He joined ABC News, London in 1989 working with the late John Cooley and Pierre Salinger. In addition to two Emmys for Investigative Reporting, Les has been honored with the International Edward R. Murrow Award for Documentary, The National Headliner Award, and the National Society of Professional Journalists Award for Enterprise Reporting. His expose of Narco-Terrorism in the Middle East was recognized with the Prestigious Overseas Press Club Award for Investigative Reporting.
Dr. Coleman is an Associate Professor emeritus of Mass Communications, and former Chair of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the American University of Technology, Halat, Lebanon . Dr. Coleman holds Doctorate of Arts degree from City University Graduate Center, New York and Université de La Rochelle, France, He earned a Masters Degree from Auburn University and a B.A. from Jacksonville State University. He resides in Tallahassee, FL with his wife, Mary-Claude.
