Kim Garcia-De Castris

Alto range, husky, sensual, to child-like, cartoon

Voice Description

My voice is alto (Medium) range.

I am able to make it deep and sultry, fun and amused, higher and childlike, or high pitched and whiny.

I can also achieve some voices that would be well suited to cartoons, either high-pitched and silly for a comedic heroine or low and sultry for a villain.

I can moo quite convincingly and do a very good "When Harry Met Sally" deli scene as well as a serious "newscaster" style voice..

My Voice Experience

As head captionist and voice descript specialist, I am responsible for creating and recording scripts to be read in the quiet periods of television series. The purpose of this is to help visually impaired viewers understand any action that may not be immediately clear without the visuals.

A nice, mellow, inobtrusive voice is required for many shows, as attention must not be taken from the program's existing dialogue. Children's shows, however, must be delivered in a slightly more upbeat and entertaining voice in order to keep with the flow of the programming.

Because the descriptions must come between dialogue, everything is very tightly scheduled and must be delivered clearly, concisely and quickly.

My Training

I attended Humber college radio programme and have also taken their voiceover course. My teachers in the regular programme and my coach in the voiceover course were always very positive, and my announce teacher was relieved when he learned that I was planning on taking announce as my career path, at one point telling me that I "had a god-given gift" for announcing, recording and public speaking.

While in school, I was often called upon to give the "sexy" deliveries in demonstrations and on classmates' projects, as well as incidental voices whenever required.

I have taken three years of drama classes, which combined with my standard English and French courses, helped to prepare me for public speaking.

I tend to get very comfortable very quickly in new situations, and am always able to focus on the task at hand, even if that task requires goofiness.
