Wry, Ironic, Smart, Energetic, Compassionate
I have a warm, deep (but not excessively so) voice with a unique quality to it, that has been the voice of two cable TV networks, the billboard voice of another On Demand TV network, three TV series, several one-off TV specials, countless promo campaigns, major house and museum tours, audiobooks, government health surveys, documentaries, eLearning courses and training videos, language programs, a long-running science news series, and commercials (see below for specifics).
I've been a voice talent, voiceover, voice actor, voice over talent, voice over artist, and voice-over "er" (along with other popular keywords) doing voice over work (another one!) for the last 17 years.
Here's what some satisfied clients have said about working with me:
Nice work!!! Everything worked beautifully and your voice was perfect!
Josh, truly, this has been a pleasure. Everyone over here is extremely impressed with the finished product. Thanks again and I look forward to our next job together.
Josh, the video was a great success and I am very grateful for the fast rate of response regarding production needs and the tremendous professional work product that you delivered. Have a great day!
BIG TIME WIN!!! You are now officially a member of our production team! Your voice, writing and demeanor is absolutely perfect for us! I'll be in touch again very soon. Thanks again, for everything!!
Hi Josh, Was a pleasure working with you. Just so you know the client was very happy with your read!
This reading is terrific. I know ***** emailed to say we got it and it worked but I wanted to say thank you myself - you saved my bacon! It sounds great and works very well with the picture. A thousand thanks.
I just heard back and the boss likes it ... so we're good! I really like your work and I also appreciate the way you helped out yesterday.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects
I do a great 'straight announcer' and am a great choice if you need a standard or more conversational narrator. I seem to be able to engage listeners even when the material is rather bland or dry. Ok, or lethally boring. I'm also terrific at characters, comedy, accents and do a solid handful of offbeat celebrity impersonations. I can pull off British (high and low) French, Italian, Caribbean, Southern US, Northeastern US, Western US and a bit of an Aussie accent as well. Good on ya, mate!
My Voice Experience
I've been the voice of networks (HBO Family for seven years, Metroguide in NYC for its first year, Nick On Demand for the last seven years), shows ("This Week In History" - a documentary series - for 2 years on the History Channel, "The Man Made Movie" on TBS Superstation for another 2 years, and "Ask The Stars" and "Celebrity Chat" on the TV Guide Channel for a year and a half). I've also voiced uncounted promos, launch campaigns, commercials, documentaries, audiobooks, corporate videos, sales tapes and in-house and YouTube videos, house and museum tours, and all manner of training videos.
I've been lucky enough to do some great long form projects - a huge project for the government teaching language and culture lessons to our service members stationed abroad, a heap of eLearning modules all about how to safely and effectively work at and run a coal-fired power plant, an enormous HIV survey/questionnaire, a 6.5 hour LSAT Audiobook Prep Course, a 30 minute industry presentation on electronic traffic sensors, a 35 minute branding "audio white paper," a State Emergency Preparedness Training Course, a CPR course, several other eLearning modules, a game, a prezi, as well as some museum tours for museums like the Huntington in Pasadena, The Getty in LA and Boston Children's Museum - almost all gigs that I got through Voice123, by the way.
Representation-wise, I started with Don Buchwald in NYC, then moved for several years to Atlas Talent Agency (also in NYC) then to JE Talent in San Francisco, then to Stars: The Agency and now I'm just self-represented for the time-being. The first 7 years of my VO career were in NYC where I voiced shows or promos for Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Nick@Nite, TV Land, Lifetime, USA, Court TV and those channels listed above, amongst others. Since then, I've been out here from my gorgeous top-shelf fully soundproofed home studio in Northern California.
I've been busy voicing and can be heard regularly on Inside Science TV (90 second science-related news pieces for local newscasts and the web for the last several years) as well as re-writing and re-voicing a few TV series from Russia(!) as well as doing the billboards for Nick On Demand (for the last seven years) as well as re-writing and voicing the occasional eLearning gigs and voicing a LOT of corporate videos for Symantec and others. Some eLearning highlights were voicing, editing and delivering nearly 40 lessons for the government (mentioned above) as well as all of the nearly 1,000 questions for a major HIV transmission study as well as a 6+ hour audiobook (all done entirely in my amazing studio) as well as some museum tours, a couple of sizzle tapes for a few new shows and a number of corporate sales and training tapes, that monster LSAT audiobook project, Emergency Preparedness Training Video and the errant award presentation or two.
Again, I'm equally comfortable doing comedy and characters as I am doing "Straight Announcing" or narration.
I spent 4 years as a radio DJ, acted from childhood through college in school and camp plays, was the Production Director and General Manager of a college radio station, and have always been performing (most often for my poor family and friends) as the designated class clown. In fact, I did my first voice over work for myself as a producer pretending to be car salesmen, nerds, and other such worthwhile endeavors, and then for myself as the Senior Writer/Producer at Comedy Central where I spent the 'fin' years of the fin de siecle.
I recently added Stand Up Comedian to my (deucedly heavy) bag of tricks.
My Studio Equipment
I have a custom-built, state of the art, fully soundproofed home studio stocked with a gorgeous-sounding Neumann u87 microphone, an Avalon 737SP Tube Pre-Amp (another amazing machine), a Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro Mixer, a positively ginormous new iMac with a 3 terrabyte hard drive in a custom-built studio running ProTools 8.04. I tend to do a lot of unsupervised recording and editing, as I'm also a writer, producer and director, though am equally comfortable being directed during sessions via Skype or over the phone via my kickin' Gentner DH20 Digital Telephone Hybrid Box.
I'm also a multiple award-winning short filmmaker, a screenwriter, a script doctor, copywriter and a multiple award-winning TV writer/producer/director. I'm an excellent copy-editor and rewrite man, should you have a script that needs a little help.
And on the off chance that you're creating an eLearning video, I've got extensive experience writing, directing, script-doctoring and, of course, voicing these types of projects as well.
Otherwise, I'm great fun to work with, pay meticulous attention to detail and produce stellar work. In addition, I speak French like a native French speaker who’s suffered massive head trauma, and am greatly admired by small children and adults who should know better.
