John Langdon

Erudite, versatile, great narration

Voice Description

Mid toned and smooth with a deep warmth underlying it all. The best reader for audiobooks, accessible yet erudite narration, can do multiple character voices, can add a touch of fun and whimsy, can also do straight announcing.

My Home Base

, New Mexico, United States

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Accents/dialects include: southern U.S., French, German, Scottish, Irish, English (upper class or lower class), Native American, Chinese, Russian and a variety of others. I also read cartoon voices, aliens, birds, dogs, cats, meek and tough guys, women characters, older and younger voices, and a multitude of character voices.

My Voice Experience

I began as an announcer introducing a skateboard safety video for Progressive Eye Productions (with Andre Cox) back around 1987. I have worked extensively on stage and have performed both on and off stage characters. I have more recently worked with Madeleine Wild at Radio Magic in Sonoma, California, providing male voice over for projects like the Jenner Inn-by-the-Sea commercial that aired on TV 50. I have also done PSAs for KSFR public radio in Santa Fe, New Mexico with operations manager Sean Conlon, and I have extensive experience reading books aloud.

My Training

B.A. in English and American Languages and Literatures from Harvard cum laude.

Graduate certificate in Mandarin Chinese from Cornell University.

Studied Acting, Singing, Speech, Movement, and Fencing at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.

Studied Shakespearean Acting with Actors Lab Arizona.

Head Instructor teaching Acting and Play Production at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM.

Continue to study voice acting with Madeleine Wild at Radio Magic in Sonoma, CA, and I perform wherever and whenever I can.

My Studio Equipment

For faster turnaround, I use a Mac computer with Garage Band and an MXL USB .009 24 bit Studio Condenser microphone with a pop filter.

Additional Skills

I really see it as my job to please the client. When I read to my son in public, people often stop on the street to listen. A woman once told me that, in 28 years of teaching, she had never heard a story read better than I did it. Strangers on the telephone also tend to mention my voice, telling me that I should be on the radio or television. They are often not surprised to hear that I am!
