James Swensen-Flagg

Articulate, humorous, energetic, dynamic, youthful

Voice Description

my voice cuts nice, not muffled at all. Easy to mix. I can sound geeky or "techy". I can be wildly animated and convey lots of excitement. I'm good at not sounding like I'm reading anything, quite conversational. I have a wide range of emotions from Angry to Enthusiastic, warm and concerned to robot voices. I've always enjoyed the movies and from that I've picked up a handful of character voices. I'm willing to try anything and experiment in front of a microphone. I can do hard sell. Though I am a native Minnesotan, I can change my accent.

My Voice Experience

I started singing for a hard rock band called Seazon of the Fly back in 2002. That's when I started to come out of my shell. It just so happened I worked in theater advertising for a company called "Unique Screen Media" from 2000-2004. I dabbled in voice over work as they needed it. It seemed to go over well. In 2005 I landed a spot at "1 Better LLC" another On Screen Ad agency in St. Cloud MN. My main title was and is Audio Engineer. Not only do I record random voice talents in the area for our ads, but I read quite a few of them as well. My voice can be heard in many Midwest, Southern and Eastern movie theaters. Before the previews begin, there are the ads that play. I make those. I still work here at 1 Better and have access to the studio to record voice overs and other audio related projects. I love a challenge and have a great ear for emphasis and emotion. I have the experience and ability to give you a high quality recording of a professional voice. With a quick turn around. I love to be in front of a microphone, you'll hear it.

My Training

I attended Eden Prairie Hennepin Technical College for 2 years from 1998-2000. Interned at Two Fish studios in Mankato, MN for the first half of 2000. Found employment with Unique Screen Media in 2000. Worked there for 4 years, then moved on to record and do voice work for 1 Better LLC 2005 to now. I do all of my bands recordings and most of the writing. I am a creative individual at heart and rarely do I NOT have an idea for how to make things better. My band Seazon of the Fly is an active recording and performing act. You can see what we do at www.seazonofthefly.com. Some of my older work at 1 Better can be found at www.1better.net. With each year, I get better at what I do.

My Studio Equipment

I have access to a vocal booth for a nice dry non"roomy" sound. I record with a Pro Tools LE system. I own a very nice Gemeni vocal mic. I am good with compression, all my voices are full and never squished. I have limited plug-ins for effects. Anything basic, I probably have it. Reverbs, eq's, delays, flangers, compressors, gates etc.

I own a few instruments as well. Including drums, bass, and a Roland MC-909 sequencer. I can make some pretty sweet beats. I have knowledge in music and composition.

Additional Skills

I'm fairly well rounded in the studio. Video editing... recording, mixing, acting. Some interest in writing and the creative process. I play a myriad of instruments. I have a general love and appreciation for the art of music, recording and video production.
