Helen Millington

Voice Description

I have a warm, rich, subtle, calming tone but I can adapt my pitch to add a more fun, distinctive, exciting, feminine and sexy edge. I am able to create both a serious and playful feeling using my voice and I have been told that listening to me reading something aloud makes anything sound interesting!

My Home Base

, United Kingdom

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

I am able to speak with several accents, primarily Northern British, for example Geordie(Newcastle), Scouse(Liverpool), Yorkshire and Southern Irish. I can also imitate Northern American and Australian. I am also competent in a Cockney(London) accent.

I have regularly been complimented on my exaggerated, middle-class Australian accent in the style of the television comedy Kath and Kim!

My Voice Experience

I am just embarking on my voice-over career but I have worked on various vocal projects during the course of my degree including a recorded version of the Samuel Beckett play 'Rockaby', recordings for other students performances including devising scripts and narrating over live-action. I have also written and delivered many seminars and presentations whilst at university and elsewhere.

My Training

Predicted 1st Class honours Drama degree: University of Lincoln.
'A' Level Performing Arts and English.
Classically trained soprano singing voice.
Private Speech lessons.
Classically trained painist.
'Acting for the media' optional degree unit.
'Radio Drama' optional degree unit.

I have taken part in many recorded radio productions for university radio and media students portfolios.

I was also the School Liaison Rep for my faculty which meant speaking clearly at Staff/student meetings, making myself understood and speaking with authority and confidence.

My Studio Equipment

I do not have my own personal audio equipment although I do have access to Audacity software on my computer which can be used to edit voice recordings. I hope to invest in some equipment shortly.

Additional Skills

I have spent many years in a theatrical environment and have therefore used my voice extensively, both on stage, on radio and in various recordings.

Completing my degree has reignited my passion for all things 'theatrical' and I have realised how much I enjoy using my voice, voice control and manipulating my voice to create different effects, moods and characters.

As part of my degree we adapted the traditional radio drama 'The Archers' in a contemporary style, for which I received extremely high praise.
