My Voice Experience
From broadcasting play-by-play for hockey, football, baseball to narrations with a concert orchestra, to English lessons on digital in China for Chinese students to corporate training webinars, commercial for cable Television and dramatic and comedic roles as a radio actress for live radio dramas, my voice over experience is definitely varied. Experience as a medical transcriptionist and massage therapist have honed my medial language capabilities.
WGTD, 91.1, a Wisconsin Public Radio affiliate is where I do my radio acting. Most corporate webinar work has been done with Follett Higher Education Groups as a software trainer. The rest is a mix of work with Time Warner in Wisconsin, Shaanxi TV in China and Washington University Winds Ensemble in St. Louis, MO.
I'm an accomplished public speaker and professional voice talent who knows how to interpret a message to achieve the desired impact and affect.
A long time musician, I understand how important it is to create the right rhythm, to vary it and cue from the downbeat. My recent work with Jeff Lupetin, a well known voice coach and accomplished VO artist in Chicago, moved my good skills to a higher level. I also worked with Dave Laffel of BAM Studios in Chicago to produce my most recent demos.
I'm a radio actress performing live radio plays 8-10 time annually for a Wisconsin Public Radio affiliate. The diversity of comedy and drama strengthens acting abilities and demands that the live delivery be spot on. I like the need to act, react and think on my feet working with a group. The input from peers can be brutal but is always constructive and goes to making solo work stronger and more immediate.
My Studio Equipment
I presently share a studio with a VO per but am building a studio in my home.
My mic is a Shure KSM32 with preamp processing, a dBXx286a voice processor from dBx Audio. I use Audacity for editing and have an Echo Mia sound card on my Mac.
Until recently I relied on outside studios but find it is much more desirable to have the ability to respond more quickly to projects without having to leave the house.
I am very comfortable in a medical environment, having owned a massage therapy business in St. Louis, MO for 10 years. My work there with the Baker Chiropractic Clinic established a firm foundation in medical language and health care practice.
Several experiences both professionally and personally make it easy to be successful as a voice artist. The radio acting is very helpful as is the medical background. But being a musician gives me an almost innate sense of modulation, rhythm, tone and coloring.
I'm also an accomplished writer and editor for narrative, technical and business writing. One of the most challenging classes I taught at universities in China was English business writing. And, a large part of being a successful corporate trainer is the ability to write clear, easy to follow, concise process documentation - along with engaging and focused big picture narrative. I'm also a bit of a word geek! A favorite holiday gift is a copy of "The Thinker's Thesaurus".
I'm a communicator whether via recording, on a dais at a large conference, or on the radio live as a member of the OSS and a spy for General Donovan, a Southern Belle, Miss Brooks, Mary Livingston, a sniping, mean mouthed English matron, or a snotty waitress. I can deliver your message.
