My Voice Experience
Types of recordings I have done:
Recording my Own Published Writing
On - Camera
(Radio Interviews) - Gave interviews on and off past 18 years.
I've been self-employed since 1993. My earliest voice over work, PSA's, was in the 1970s and I've done one-off work since. My on-camera part time contract work began in 1993, and I became a featured Futurist on a television show in 1996.
On-Camera - Extra work - was Taft-Hartley'd around 1988 but didn't follow up on it.
(Corporate Training) "The Start": The Girl with 'The Voice' (Cordura Publications, San Diego, CA - 1982-1985)
Early on in my engineering company accounts management experience, my employer frequently heard clients call in and ask for 'that girl with 'the voice'....I started out with accounts in three states, and eventually ended up managing 25 - 50% of the company clients when the company downsized. My voice saved my job. Clients frequently commented that they would 'buy anything from me' just to listen to my voice. Usually guys, if they got to know me, better would tell me that it was just so 'reassuring', a time out from their work. I was often told it "sounded like" I actually cared and was listening to them. Probably it was because I did care and was listening, and was determined to find answers to their questions. The company recorded my voice and sales interactions to use when training other sales people in another department.
My sales voice sounds: warm, safe, comforting like hot-chocolate on a cold damp night, and men especially have told me it is 'sexy'. Women usually just tell me I sound friendly and trust-able.
As a kid, I developed character voices. I was an only child. So, since I learned to read at three, and my Mom thought it important to learn to read aloud, I read to our German Shepard and our cat. Of course, I needed to do all the character voices, too, so they wouldn't be bored. In school, I read to younger classes.
My character voices range from many kid voices, to all types of animals, squeaks, goofy sound affects.
[I'm a great "gasper".)
