Brenda Russell

Grandma with a southern drawl

Voice Description

Thanks for this offer. I can imitate a "grandma" that is spot on since I lived with my grandmother from birth to marriage (smile). I can also read children's bedtime stories (kindergarten). I enjoy proofreading for grammatical errors, and may be I can do this for a voice session. I have been a secretary and an administrative assistant in our local school district and I can blend my voice with other parents at the P.T.A.

Maybe this new interest in "voice" will inspire my daughter to play her flute more often (money, money, money).

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

This is all new for me so here I go: I enjoy Bible Study and reading outloud when new characters and stories are presented to my fellow students. I certainly can imagine being in the delivery room and having those easy going, gentle, almost rhythmic labor pains, NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

My grandmother did not allow me to play with all the neighborhood children, so I was "sheltered", I did not like playing with dolls (my mother only had 1 child/boy did I have a lot of toys).

The character trait of "sharing" was mandatory in my family. Needless to say, my children did not enjoy learning this style of being a "good little girl" and I remind them of it very often.

I am married to the best "mathematician" in the world, he memorizes all his financial credits daily, he checks the family checking and savings accounts daily and everything that is needed can be put on the "backburner" - it may never be removed from that location.

My Voice Experience

The role of "mom" is my best job ever. It has prepared me for life's ups and downs. I cannot contain my feelings sometimes when a subject comes up that involves family budgets, playing in the band, and school fundraisers!

If I was afforded the privilege of working with a couple planning to get married, I am certain/without a doubt (if they would adhere to everything I suggested) they would have a sound marriage and their respect for each other and romance would only grow. Let me have em . . .

I am a novice at professional voice training and or experience other than recordings on school telephones for parents, businesses and other school staff.

Schools have been my forte' from 1984 to 2013. I retired last year. God is so good! Jackson, MS (Jackson Public Schools, JSU (Biology Dept. Urban & Regional Planning and Athletic Dept.), and Clinton Public Schools (Special Needs Students).

My Training

I graduated from Jackson Central High School in June, 1977 as Valedictorian (small graduating class), I attended USM, Hattiesburg, MS (2-yr Program Secretarial Studies). In early education I opted to play flute in our schools' bands and did not take Home Economics, so when I got married, I had to learn how to cook (memory recall as my grandmother only allowed me to watch her from the door entrance, she preferred me reading a book instead of hands-on training.

My aunts can all sing, I cannot hold a pleasant tone. I enjoy watching TCM channel (old movies that my grandmother watched).

My Studio Equipment

I opt to visit any studio close to where I live. This would definitely be my first time at the "rodeo" and I don't even have my own horse. I know, it's not that funny.

I extend my voice to be trained by those who are steeped in the craft. I think a person can always be teachable.

Additional Skills

I don't mind typing narrative material. I don't mind proofreading documents. I don't mind photocopying written information. I even know how to fax data without getting uninterested in the details at hand.

None of these attributes would inspire a person to seek my voice but I am willing to give it my best shot.
