My Voice Experience
Radio commercials, play by play of football and baseball, lectures at various Drug and Alcohol gatherings along with many introduuctions of live bands at out door concert's which is always a kick. To stoke the crowds and see the reaction as the people get riled up. A side note. The very 1st "commercial" I did was to write, produce and speak for our High Schools Variety Show. It went on the local radio station as well as through out our Schools Pa system. I really hadn't been that popular in School until my voice was broadcast. Suddenly everyone wanted to know who's voice they were hearing. It sounded like an FM dejay, which back in 1975, was like a king around our area as FM was where you heard all the "good" music. When everyone finally found out it was me. Well let's just say I found a lot of new female aquaintance's! As well as getting some other work for the radio station. I knew then that I really wanted to use my voice as my job. I've done many types of vocal work through the years but I always think back to those first commercials and ask what if I wouldn't have done them and I am always very glad I did!
Though I am a High School Graduate. I've taught myself how to construct, run and maitain a home stuido and booked many projects for it. Bult and sold custom computers, done numerous band demo's and EP's, taken voice lesson's from Robert O'Leary a long time Bass opera singer in the Dallas Texas area. I've played and sang in many east coast bands, read all kinds of literature and attended many webinars about the voice industry. I guess you can say I'm mostly self taught. Though some may think it's a bad thing. When you hire me you get a professional capable, reliable contractor. Used to working in a fast paced, deadline aware industry. Other jobs I've had in my life taught me that. As I was a conductor/engineer for the CSX Railroad for many years as well as an East Coast Sales Rep repsponsible for all sales up and down the East Coast. Not just a small part of it. Hence a lot of exposure to different sounding vocal intonations as well as learning how to make yourself understood with different local dialects being spoken. Try talking to a born and bred Bostonian with a somewhat Western Pa drawl. Just try to understand them and have them understand you. That was fun!
My Studio Equipment
Custom built Pentium I.E.5 at 3.2 gigahertz, 8 meg of ram and two one and a half Terabyte Hard Drives. M-Audio Delta 88, Cakewalk, Adobe and Nuendo Recording software. Native Instuments, Waves, Sound Forge and many other plug ins for vocal effects. Shure mics along with various MXL mics. Peavy and Mackie Mixing consoles.
I'm 55 and have been around the Audio/ Voice Industry for many many years. I am used to working under dead lines and am mature enough to listen to what a client wants. I am flexible and open to any kind of change or other idea's a client may come up with last second and can get the job done. I mentioned before about the Railroad. It taught me a lot about customer service. Which to me is the most important thing an independant contractor needs to be aware of. Without great customer service why have a business. I am used to working with the public and know how to convey thought into what a person needs or wants to hear. I have two young adult daughters and a teenage step son. They help to keep me around today's "lingo" so I can understand how to speak their language. I read fast and can announce clearly. I'm not afraid to write copy or help flesh out any script if neded to.
