My voice can be warm or edgey. I was trained as an actor and singer and for years have recorded for my own pleasure many readings from theatre and poetry. I pick up voices and dialects and so I do many impersonations of movie stars and personalities. I would give odds that you will never hear a better reproduction of James Stewart's voice. I also sing very well: standards and show music. My voice is flexible and can create all sorts of character types such as you might hear from Paul Lynde, Walter Brennan, Carol Channing, James Mason, Peter Lorre, Edward G. Robinson, Lionel Barrymore,James Cagney,Mickey Mouse, Sheldon Leonard,Digby O'Dell the friendly undertaker, Jimmy Durante, etc. For narration I may be intense, reflective, sophisticated.

My Voice Experience
I discovered I could do impersonations when I waa 14 years old. My first was James Stewart and to this day I will give odds that no one can do a better James Stewart.Along with the discovery that I could do impersonations I was bitten by the theatre bug and decided on an acting career. I studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse under Sanford Meisner and Charles Conrad. When I was 20 I was working at the Westport Country Playhouse as production assistant but was allowed to read for filler roles, along with a large group of apprentices, for the star touring packages. The first play of the season was WITNESS FOER THE PROSECUTION starring Faye Emerson. It was a British Courtroom Drama and I was cast in the only speaking role, the court clerk, because my voice was superior to the rest. When I was 13 I came down with Narcolepsy. While sitting in the staged courtroom I nodded off just long enough for the audience to catch my recovery as I rushed across stage to swear in the leading actress as she made what was supposed to be a very dramatic entrance, Instead the audience brokeup laughing. I stopped trying to make it as an actor though I stayed in the business trying to get into the managers union for a number of years and worked many non-acting positions culminating with production associate of Lorraine Hansberry's last Broadway show: THE SIGN IN SIDNEY BRUSTIEN'S WINDOW.
I attended the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre after graduating High School. I was 17 yeARS OLD and the youngest male student. I could pass for 23. The narcolepsy took a great toll on me. It destroyed my ability to study from books and left me vulnerable to becoming overwhelmingly sleepy at inconvinient times. As I mentioned in the last paragraph, I gave up trying to act on stage. I knew nothing of voice over at that time. It was long before personal computers or the internet. I knew I had a superior voice but didn't know what to do with it. In vocal classes the teacher would have each student do a range of vocal production exercies and when the other students did theirs he had me do them and told the others: Now watch Alan and he would take me up and over the sound production range. I have never lost the desire to perform and love using my voice more than anything else. I love to sing and am always singing whatever else I am doing. I can't tell you how many times people have stopped me and said something like:You just made my day or you can really sing. I also love recording dramatic material and have been doing that since I was sixteen. I gave up on show business when I was 30 and took my natural intelligence and dependence on common sense, to make up for difficulty learning, and got into computer systems and programming. I had to work twice as hard as others to keep up but it was rewarded. I spent 13 years working and living overseas for Chase Bank. Now that I am retired I am trying to get back into performing with the aid of a new medicine that I have been taking for the last 5 years. If only that medicine had been available when I was 13 years old. I have taken a voice over course at the Susan Blu Studio in LA. I have done extra work in 11 movies such as Mission Impossible III and Charley Wilson's War and been in dozens of popular TV Series like ER or Boston Legal. I have also acted in 5 short films for festival competiton
and/or graduate student thesis. I am most interested in doing voice over work that takes advantage of my acting and characterization ability; such as animation or audio books.
My Studio Equipment
I have no special equipment at this time;only my computer and the ability to convert WAV files I record on the computer to MP3 formatted files to be attached TO EMAILS. I am open to relocation if it makes sense(and dollars). I would also be intereted in acquiring and learning to use the equipment necessary to allow me to work from my home. I will need to move from the place I have lived for the past 14 months and circumstances at the time will dictate where I go.
I have led a multifacited life. I lived in Manhattan until I was 9 years old and then moved to Boise, Idaho. My faher gave up his job as Comptroller of Bloomingdales to buy into a chain of 6 departmentr stores located in Idaho and Oregan. We spent six years in Boise, Idaho before returning to Manhattan. I learned to ride a horse and to bike to school each day. I fly fished and hunted & got the collie dog I wasn't allowed to have in the city. When we returned to Maanhattan I had picked up equine encephalitis and subsequently, narcolepsy and my whole world changed.By then I discovered I could do impersonations and sing. I studied acting and ran box offices off broadway and in music tents. I worked for Broadway producres nad was production associate of a Broadway show and assistant company manager. My final act in show business was to go back stage, introduce myself to Eddie Bracken and get him to agree to narrate a children's book the next morning. I learned computers and ended up spending 13 years working for Chase Bank in Germany, Italy, Engalnd, Chile. Paraguay, the Bahamas and Hong Kong. I spent 2 years on the island of Jersey in the English Channel. It was a wholly different life but I still sang and did impwesonation at the drop of a hat. During my 2 years on the island of Jeresey I earned a single engine pilots license and with it ABLE thru ZULU on the radio. I learned to ski in the alps and spent every weekend in winter on skis. Living as an expat for 13 years was fascinating and the things that happen in a major international bank dealing with high net worth individuals, high power international executives has many soap opera like situationas occuring .
