My Voice Experience
I've trained in musical theatre for many years, and one thing musical theater teaches you: big characters and vocal control. I had been making a living in Chicago working at Second City and Improv Olympic, and I was hired at WKQX, Q101 Chicago to write for their new morning show, called "Q101's Morning Fix."
My first contract with the show said "Staff Writer." But the show was terribly underpopulated with women, and after a few weeks the Production Director realized that I had gone from Writer to Character Actor as well! So, for the next year and a half I did a number of characters, all written and voiced by me. To see a sample of them you can check out my website:
I did Hillary Clinton, I did a Rap-Off as Martha Stewart, I did Ann Coulter doing a gay rights PSA, I did Britney Spears going to charm school, I did Condi Rice singing "I Want Condi!", I invented a character called "The Moronic Woman" based on The Bionic Woman, I created an overly earnest NPR news character named Gretchen Morris... basically, if it is female and in the news, I've voiced it.
I graduated from the Second City Conservatory, the Improv Olympic training center, and the Annoyance Theatre. Most of my degrees are unrelated to performing. But if you want to know about history, I'm your gal. :)
My Studio Equipment
I have the following equipment
1 AKG perception 100 condenser mic.
1 M-Audio firewire 400 preAmp.
A Mac Pro 8 Core tower computer.
1 high quality (AIFF) field recorder.
I have registered copies of Garage Band, and Soundtrack (part of the Final Cut Studio Suite), both of which I use regularly and have good proficiency with.
I have a relatively large sound effects library.
I have a relatively large collection of dance beats and loops.
I am the best damn ad copy writer you'll find. :)
At Q101, I wrote 2-3 60 second comedy segments per day, five days a week, for a year and a half. I can turn around interesting and funny copy, and I can do it incredibly quickly.
I also have a degree in history from Columbia University, so I can research and write longer pieces as well.
