Phil Jamison

Versatile, soft, medium, hard, characters, accents

Voice Description

My voice is very versatile. I can give you a read with a warm serious tone. I've got a great general market sound as well. But, if you need a big voice, hard sell delivery, I can give you that too. I also do believable character voices and accents. Again, versatility is what I bring to the table or studio mic in this case.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

this is, I think, one of my strong points. I can deliver many different types of character voices. Being from Arkansas I've got the redneck, hillbilly, and southern gentleman voices perfected. I can whack anyone with my wise guy or mob boss characterizations. Grumpy old man, pompous university professor, hippy, college frat guy, wimpy guy, preacher, over-the-top sports announcer, and more.

As far as accents, I can do many international accents: British, Irish, Scottish, Aussie, Italian, French, Russian, Latin, Asian, middle Eastern, and East Indian.

My impersonations are more caricatures of celebrities: Cosby, "W", Arnold, Eastwood, Don Pardo and others.

My Voice Experience

I've been writing, producing and voicing radio commercials, promos, imaging and morning show bits for 25 plus years. I have writing and produced for Imagery Advertising in St. Louis since 2000 to present, World Café in Hawaii in early 2000, and worked individually with many businesses in Arkansas and across the country writing, producing, and voicing radio ads and voicing TV ads throughout my career. I've received awards for Best Production from Broadcast Programmers Inc. from 1995 and The St. Louis Air Awards from 2000 and 2001.

My Training

I've been in the trenches everyday most of my career grinding it out in the studio. It has taught me to be fast and efficient. I did study communications at Arkansas State University in 84 & 85. Honestly, I found the college classes to be too basic for what I had already learned on the job. I've worked in every kind of situation, with every kind of salesperson, and every kind of client. I've learn to take direction and constructive criticism. In high school and college I was involved in a lot of theater, which gave me a great foundation for characters and interpreting script . I was also involved in music like band, playing guitar and choir. This gave me a great sense of timing and rhythm. It helps me "feel" the read better and allows me to match my delivery to a music bed or sound effects.

My Studio Equipment

I have a full blown audio studio. It features Electravoice mics, Symetrix 528E voice processors, 12 Channel Digital mixer, HP computer, Adobe Audition digital editor, high speed internet, Drop Box, FTP and other electronic delivery programs.

Additional Skills

I have a very creative mind. I love thinking outside the box when it comes to script writing and voice work. It has to be different to be effective. When car alarms first came out in the early 80's, everyone would rush to the office window to see who's car was being broken into. Today when you hear a car alarm, you hardly even notice. The brain tends to block what it has already heard. Let's be unique and different with your next project
