Nathan Ladd

Soothing, Rich, Relaxing, Commanding, Every-Man

Voice Description

My voice is low and rich, which lends itself to slower speech. It is warm, deep and naturally friendly. I'm not very well suited to "perky" hard-sell reads, though I can do upbeat and exuberant. For presentations or training, my voice is firm and commanding, providing a sense of expertise.

While my low voice doesn't allow for many variations, I can range from languid and relaxed, to sexy and seductive, to strong and demanding. It is well-suited to copy that reads as friendly advice from a neighbor, or that requires warmth and knowledge as if from an expert.

My Voice Experience

I have recorded corporate training videos and presentations for several years. As a certified trainer for a variety of products and technologies, I've produced computer-based training materials that have been used by hundreds of thousands of people.

In the recent past, I have recorded week-long classes that were used to train over 10,000 employees of a major Fortune 100 corporation.

My Training

I was introduced to voice over work and trained by my father, an accomplished radio disc jockey and professional voice over artist. My first on-air experience was at six years old, and I was a regular presence in both the control room of the Los Angeles radio station where my father worked as well as his home studio from a very young age.

I have attended several courses and workshops on communication and public speaking, and my current job entails speaking and presenting to Fortune 500 corporations on a variety of technologies.

My Studio Equipment

I record most voice work with my Shure SM7B microphone connected to a Focusrite Saffire 6 audio interface, with output through KRK Rokit 6 monitors or Sony MDR-7506 headphones. I also have a Shure SM57 mic, Grado SR125 headphones, and Shure SE535 in-ear monitors. Sometimes I'll test output through a pair of EPOS ELS 8 speakers attached to a Cambridge Audio Topaz amplifier.

I do most of my recording on a MacBook Pro with Logic Pro 9, though I also have (and am experienced with) Pro Tools 9. All recording is done in a dedicated home studio.

Additional Skills

I'm an experienced speaker, and often present live to corporate audiences. I have the ability to make very technical and often dry material engaging and accessible to a wide variety of audiences.

I have experience copywriting for both voice and print, and understand the nuances and limits of writing copy for each medium.
