Martha Steele

Voice Description

I have a smooth conversational voice naturally but can alter it to achieve whatever mood is necessary for the project. I am a radio professional and have done countless audio commercials since my career began in 1984. I have a stable of many different character voices at my disposal. I do many accents and am always working on new ways to change my voice. I'm extremely flexable.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

Where to begin? If you can imagine it, I can do it. Just off the top of my head, here are a few examples:
child, lisping child, surfer dudette, southern belle, trailer trash red-neck girl, valley girl, mexican, proper british, cockney, scottish, east indian, slavic, anything else you wanna throw my way!

My Voice Experience

I have won three awards from the Wyoming association of Broadcasters for commericals I have written, voiced and produced. Since 1984 I have been churning out audio commercials for various radio stations in Wyoming, Texas and Oklahoma.

My Training

I trained on the job beginning in 1984 with my first on-air radio job. As part of that job, I wrote, voiced and produced all my own commercials. I spent 14 years at three different radio stations honing my craft and even became a manager. No, I didn't go to college to train for any of it. I'm just naturally chatty, I guess.

I went to college as an adult, taking mostly creative writing classes. Since I was already writing creatively at work, it seemed like a natural extention of my talent.

I have extensive experience as a community theater actor and director. Obviously it isn't Hollywood, but it's still fun character experience and worth mentioning.

For the past 11 years, I have moved around the country with my husband. I left work to care for our son who is now 12. I recently re-entered the radio workforce and am expanding my voiceover horizons!

My Studio Equipment

I have access to studio equipment at the radio station. I am currently working on Cool-Edit Pro.

Additional Skills

During the years when I didn't work in radio, I kept my skills sharp by reading at my son's school. This was always done with the appropriate voices, of course. He is too old to have his Mom read at school now- apparently that's too embarassing. Children's books are a particular favorite of mine because the character voices can really be "over the top", unlike the voices in most serious literature.
