Experience, training, and equipment
I started voice over by coincidence in 1997 while scoring and acting in a series for Glen Larson called P.S.I Luv U. I was appearing in the episode as a musician and the director heard my voice and thought I should do the voice over for a flashback scene. Since that point, I have done several narrations and voice overs for different animated series such as The PJ's and Kid Notorious. I also coached in the studio different actors and artists I was producing, for example, the album Fuzzatonic Scream on Atlantic, featuring Bobby Gaylor, who is known for his work Phineas and Ferb. Also, I have filled in as guest DJ for Mark & Brian on KLOS. I have now been the voice for Kabota for the past four years as well as regular work for several ad agencies for gaming, commercials, TV and film.
I have an extensive musical education, which has helped immensely in voice over work, with regard to rhythm, timing, and musical dynamics. I have been involved with several television and movie scores for the past 20 years so I am no stranger to the deadlines and demands of the creative process. You can hear me at the end of The Replacements, singing David Bowie's Heroes. Apart from recording several albums with some prominent artists, I recently scored the hit show, Justified, along with Steve Porcaro and have wanted to expand back into the field of voice overs.
I have a full studio in the house where I score television and film. I have a Mackie 32-channel board, Neve pre-amps, SSL compressors, a myriad of outboard processing gear (too numerous to list here), several hi-quality mics for all purposes, a vast amount of plug ins, and a wide range of instruments for composing.
The most relevant skill aside from voice over would have to be singing. I've appeared on several albums and in a number of movies as being one of the top guitarists in the field. Also, I've done an extensive amount of touring worldwide and worked with some of the best artists in the business - Paul Rogers, Peter Frampton, Keith Emerson, Chicago, Rob Halford, David Coverdale, Mickey Dolenz, Don Felder, John Waite, Little Richard, Larry Wilmore, Ricky Martin, Penn Bagley, James Franco, Margo Martindale, Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins, and even Spinal Tap.
