Script Details

McCarren Park Pool was originally built in 1936 as a part of the New Deal, in efforts to provide city improvement and jobs during Great Depression. With 1.1 million gallons of water and a capacity of 6,800, it is one of the largest pools in all of New York City. A multiple number of people are said to have drowned in it's early days, most notably, a little girl who's ghost has said to been seen crying and asking for help. Orbs and drops in temperature have also been recorded.

The pool was eventually closed in 1983 and was soon abandoned. The empty pool was taken over by a large population of the homeless community and drug addicts, many of whom died there. In 2008, a park worker was sent to investigate a foul odor that had been plaguing the area for months. Upon entreating the pool shed, he found a dead body so badly decomposed, that the gender, race and age was completely undetectable.

In 2012, the pool was reopened after a 28 year hiatus. It took 30 months and $50 million dollars to restore it back to it's original state. However, the bad reputation remained the same. Within the very first day, the pool was closed an hour early when teenage boys attacked a lifeguard after he told them to stop doing backflips into the pool. A few days later, 2 police officers were also attacked for the same reason. Within the first week alone, 3 arrests had been made for rioting and assault. Not only was the pool itself encountering problems, but so were the buildings and area around it. Businesses in the neighborhood were being being vandalized with graffiti and the parks were being filled with litter and due to a lack of bathrooms- people were dedicating right in public, leaving feces throughout the park and sidewalks.

Today it is a popular summer destination for locals and tourists alike.
