Project Main Details

Voice of Winnie a 19th century enslaved woman
Established documentary studio is casting for the voice of an enslaved black woman in her 30s-40s who worked in the mansion of a Virginia plantation. She and her husband are welcoming a guest (also enslaved) from a neighboring plantation and chatting as they set up a spot for him to spend the night.

This is for a short audio program (60-90 seconds) that will play in a reconstructed slave quarters at a historic site as part of an exhibit about slavery and its legacy.

We are looking for voice talent with some acting experience as this needs to part of a believable scene with three characters. Winnie’s role has 8 lines. We would also like this person to hum a lullaby (“All the Pretty Horses”).

***If interested, please provide a couple takes of the two lines that are supplied. Thank you!

Script Details

Winnie and her husband are hosting an enslaved man they know from a nearby plantation on a wet, windy night. At this point in the scene, their voices are conversational but on the low side so they are not heard by others outside the slave cabin.

LINE 1>>Winnie (talking to her husband in a low voice): Matthew, move those barrels against that wall; always seems the roof leaks over there.

LINE 2>>Winnie (scared and angry at the same time, still talking in a low voice so they are not overheard): What if one of those slave traders shows up while you’re gone? What then?
Please note that you should only use the script or your recording of it for auditioning purposes. The script is property, unless otherwise specified, of the voice seeker and it is protected by international copyright laws.
