Look around. For most of us, THIS is how we see the world. But What does a patient with glaucoma-associated visual field loss see? The reality of the glaucoma patients’ experience is nuanced and complex. As patience begins to experience glaucoma-associated visual field loss, they report objects missing or disappeared from their field of view, while other patients report a field of view that is foggy, fuzzy, cloudy, or blurry. In addition, some patients reported double-vision and blind-spots. Activities that require reading or looking at a computer can be especially frustrating. Outdoors, the on-set of glaucoma-associated visual field loss can dramatically effect the patient. Symptoms like blind spots or not being able to see details can make activities like driving or walking difficult, if not dangerous. Not only does their vision become cloudy, or foggy, but patients can experience a debilitating psychological burden because of their inability inability to accurately describe their visual field loss to loved ones or physicians, making them feel alone and helpless in a world that is slowly disappearing before their eyes.
