Toward Inclusion
ZD2050428
Looking Beyond our differences is the essence of Chabad philosophy. That’s why our doors are practically programmed to be open to Jews of all shapes and sizes.

But no matter how wide we open our doors, there are are still some bodies that have trouble getting in.

Sometimes the challenge is obvious…

And we may have some ideas about how to help…

But those ideas seem big and complicated,

and we figure “there must be somebody else who can take care of this…”

But if we don’t actually do anything….

Nothing changes, and some people are still stuck outside.

Sometimes a person may have disabilities we can’t see…

We may not even notice that they’re having trouble getting inside.

And even if we do notice, it’s very hard to figure out what we can do.

So what can we do when there are people we want to help come inside,

but we can’t figure out how?

Just ask!

Keep your eyes and ears open and look around for people who could use some extra support to feel included.

And then walk right up to them and ask how you can help!

Sometimes it can feel awkward, and we might think it could be better to just leave people alone.

Or you might be worried that you’ll get in over your head.

But a friendly smile and a sincere offer to help is always welcome, and you can work together to find out what works for both of you. Most of the time you’ll find that there are lots of little things you can do to help that can make a big difference.
And you don’t even have to wait until you see someone having trouble. Be proactive!

Place inviting wording on your fliers and websites, with a name and phone number to contact if someone needs an accommodation.

Include pictures of people with disabilities in your print and social media, to let them know they are important to you.

Looking Beyond our differences is the essence of Chabad philosophy. By opening our doors for every body, we can put that philosophy into practice today!
