Project Main Details

The Gravity Project 2
Producing a voiceover for Non Profit theatrical production that explores the concept of Gravity. The literal force that keeps us grounded and draws into the earth and the feeling that brings a more serious and emotional weight to a situation. The program starts by exploring the force of gravity and how it is all around us. We cant get away from it yet we want to defy it. It also explores how it can be seen in the form of a person or a relationship that we are drawn to or we cant get away from. It explores how you it can keep you grounded or yet bring you down.

The project is intended to UPlift and by the end show that we can achieve new heights by defying gravity.

Script Details

(Thinking of Gravity as a person/relationship speak the following in soft, subtle but clear tone and whisper)

"You are everywhere"
"I can't get away from you"
"I'm drawn to you"
You draw me in
"You're all around me"
"You keep me grounded"
"You're onto me and all over me"
"You keep pulling me down"
You bring me down
You keep pulling me down
The gravity of this
The gravity of the situation
Something always brings me back to you
I want to defy you
we need you to defy you
Set me free

(Thinking of Gravity as a thing)

it draws me in
it keeps pulling me down
it's everywhere
it's working against me
it wants to bring me down

"Newton's Law, Conceived in Free Fall, Would not be defied."

Read in a poetic way with a cadence (See Ben Norris Gravity Slam)

Sir Isaac Newton Invented Gravity,
Everyone knows that.
He sat alongside
the highest branch of a tree,
cross-legged, childlike,
musing on how weird it all was.
Whilst reaching down to pick a fruit,
already yearning upwards,
he realized what was missing.
He tossed the Apple high above him,
resigned to watching it float tortuously away,
like most of his good ideas in those days,
juggling with scarcely fathomable formulae,
then, precisely at the moment of conception,
he plopped to the ground
with the graceless ceremony
of a nickel in a slot.
Adam ate it, it knocked our Isaac on the crown,
and Steve Jobs sold it to you.
Gravity; man’s first disobidience-ce-ce-ce.
Things went well for a while,
getting around was a lot easier,
and Isaac and his friends bought
eachother Shoes to celebrate.
Buildings went up, and stayed down now,
Trampolines sales increased exponentially,
and the sea found its place;
no longer just a huge inconvenient rain-drop.

But like any stroke of genius,
things got out of hand,
people grappled with designs,
that Isaac hadn’t planned,
he knew he’d born a fickle monster,
that they couldn’t understand,
delusional in their conviction,
that things always land feet first,
butter side up.

They were sprinting,
before they could even crawl,
he tried to stall what he foresaw,
try to recall a product flawed,
for its complete monopoly,
but there was no clause for opting out,
which they seem to have forgotten,
he regretted his invention
lacked an on off switch or safety catch
he snatched a breath as his new history
folded like dominoes before him,
dominoes that never fell,
but only flipped before him.
He saw pennies drop,
Bodies thick with knowledge,
plummet lone from library windows,
planes crash and towers crumbled,
land slides and swallows people,
bombs, Salem, harbour evil,
he was a terrorist;
he knew the original disaster,
from which all other disasters grew.
He wanted to undo it,
He knelt and hammered ‘Control Zed’
with his fists into the earth,
chocked by a curse,
“They’d never learn!”,
he said. A proto-type of spider man,
power and responsibility,
colliding in his mind,
like to slabs of enriched uranium.

He couldn’t see then, though,
by calculating his descent,
he ensured his elevation,
like a propane flame
through the halls of fame,
of science’s greatest (accidental) inventions,
because for everyone that falls,
there are a thousand books
in a hundred arms,
climbing the library stairs on his behalf.
For everything that crumbles,
there are monuments erected,
in defiant celebration.
For every slip and broken bone,
Follows fore-score epic baseball catches,
it made the sky a place to aim for,
made Buzz Aldrin and Felix Baumgartner
not just normal blokes;
it made a million kids,
looking at the moon,
want nothing more than to try it.

We need the speed of our flying dreams,
we need gravity to defy it.
