The Crones ZD2941293
The project is an independant feature-length film that will be released via Vimeo. It has been sponsored by the website, Short of The Week, and will premiere exclusively on that website. The narration is short (12 minutes) and will appear at the beginning and end of the film. The film takes place in 1272. The narration has to have a rough tone to it, it may either be man or woman and it will be from the viewpoint of a common citizen from the town of Grasmere. This fictional town has had many run-ins with witches or crones from the nearby woods. They have killed young children and wreaked havoc. The narrator will be recounting what he/she witnessed in the film and reciting legends of the past involving the witches/crones. The narrator has been farming his/her entire life and lives a life of few luxuries. Point being they have a direct, no-nonsense manner to them. Their voice is passionate, these events are not pleasant to recall. The short script attached is not from the film but has been written to replicate the tone of the overall narration.

I had been hearin' the wailin' of the wind for weeks on end. Storms ravaged us for months at a time, no matter the season. I was lyin' down for the evening when I heard a gut-wrenchin' shriek from the woods. Me stomach dropped to the floor and back, fore this was no ordinary cry. No man nor woman could have made this sound. This sound so horrible it cut through the howlin' and drizzle of rain like a knife. I peeked out the window to see that.... someone had lit the forest ablaze. As thick as those woods were yee could see the orange glow from its heart startin' to swell. Some daft fool musta thought it good to get rid of our witches by jus' burnin' their home. Sigh... T'was after a week straight of burnin' that we saw what was left of our woodland. The only thing that stood amongst the burnt trees and ash, was a stake. With vines twisted and hanging all around it. Children's toys had been tied to it, swayin' in the wind. And sittin' atop it, a goat's skull. Left entirely untouched.
