Taiwan MRC

This is a short video that we created about a program in Taiwan. A coordinator for the program shares what it is and how it works. We need it to be easy for people to understand from the United States that watch our video. We want it to sound as natural as possible and to fit her tone as best as possible. I've attached a sample of her voice at the link below: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-xmziZB0iylVThNejZBZ3NvUE0/view?usp=sharing

It’s not easy for us to minister in schools because Taiwan is not a Christian nation. Taiwan is primarily a Taoist and Buddhist country. Years ago, our government discovered morality had become a serious problem. So, for the past 10-20 years, our Education Department in Taiwan has been focusing on character education in all schools. The schools are not open to other religions, especially not Christian groups. But reaching children and youth is our goal, so it was our prayer to find a way to get into schools.

Back then, one of our volunteers was the storyteller in her daughter’s school. It was Christmas time, so the school needed the storytellers to help the students know the meaning of Christmas. So, after this volunteer shared the need with us, we designed a program. Then we went to the school to present this program, which is entertaining and educational. It also helped the school in character and life education. Because of this, the “Making Right Choices” program became very popular.

We help the students understand the importance of making right choices. Most of the principals told us, “Your 40 minute presentation is much more effective than our one year teaching.” “Making the right choices” is elaborately designed. Most of the time the students are just listeners but we also got them involved. They became participants. In the first part of the program, we have the students correct the clown from making wrong decisions. Through the interaction between the students and clown, we help the students understand there will be a lot of ideas about how to make right choices, but to accept or not is up to you.

Here, there are only a few materials about God’s word designed for kids. But OneHope designed the Book of Hope which is made up of the four gospels. At the end of each program, the students freely decide if they want to take a copy of the Book of Hope. There’s no way for most churches in Taiwan to enter schools to reach students, but OneHope has the most popular tools to enter the schools.

So once we schedule a presentation at a school, we do our best to invite churches nearby to partner with us. A key goal is to have church members hand out the Book of Hope to the students. So the Book of Hope becomes an evangelistic tool for local churches. Personally, the reason I keep doing this is because I see it as a seed-sowing ministry. All the seeds sown in the hearts of students give us hope. After they receive the Book of Hope, after seeing the program, God’s word is planted in their hearts, and through God’s word, they can be drawn to God.
