Savannah Travel Guide

This is an editorial video about what to do in Savannah, GA for visitors. It will play on WhereTraveler.com and our YouTube channel.

It covers where to go, where to eat, what to do and much much more

SAMPLE:

Savannah Georgia. Founded in 1733 by General James Oglethorpe as an Atlantic port, it’s been called the country’s “first planned city” because of it’s layout. Local legend has it that Savannah’s beauty saved it from being razed during the Civil War in General Sherman’s March to the Sea.

Today, Savannah’s splendor, amazing cuisine and old-fashion Southern hospitality make it one of the best Southern cities to visit.

Savannah is the epitome of antebellum style with horse-drawn carriages, cobblestone streets shaded by Spanish moss-covered trees and one of the largest historical districts in the country. Savannahians are known for their hospitality, witnessed in their friendly, Low Country restaurants that serve up nouvelle versions of beloved Southern recipes like shrimp-n-grits and fried chicken.

Savannah’s antebellum architecture made it a Hollywood darling. 1993’s Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was shot at the Mercer Williams House, today a public museum. Forrest Gump’s iconic “life is like a box of chocolates” scene was shot right in Chippewa Square but you won’t find the bench: It’s located in the splendid Savannah History Museum. The city also hosts several haunted walking tours that delve into the local gothic lore.

Wandering the streets of downtown’s Historic District can be an all-day activity. Along the way, you’ll find the childhood home of writer Flannery O’Connor and the Instagram-worthy Parisian-style fountain in Forsyth Park. The City Market is a hub of activity with art galleries, local boutiques and outdoors entertainment. And don’t forget the tourist friendly River street. The waterside strip is crowded with a number of bars and restaurants. Nearby Tybee Island is a popular vacation spot, thanks to its beaches and picturesque lighthouse. At night visitors return from the beach for the soulful food and plethora of entertainment options; it’s a recipe that even the most seasoned traveler entertained could indulge for days!
