Public power has a long and proud history in the Pacific Northwest. In the fall of 1966, managers from 125 electric utilities, who are preference power customers of the Bonneville Power Administration, came together in pursuit of unity, knowledge, and influence in meeting their future power supply needs. Originally operating out of the offices at McMinnville Power and Light, the Public Power Council soon evolved into a shared source of technical expertise and advocacy for ratepayers around all major developments of the Federal Columbia River Power System. For five decades now, PPC has represented the views of public power and influenced major policy decisions, such as the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Northwest Power Act of 1980.
