Paterson Brand Heritage Historical Short Film
A cinematic bio-pic of Tom Paterson’s life – the man Peter Drucker called “the greatest process-thinker in the world.” Tom had a successful career with IBM, RCA, where he first patented the ATM pin technology, developed the world’s first lightweight camcorder, worked with the Disney brothers to design and engineer Space Mountain, and was commissioned by Ronald Reagan to open up the Chinese economy… all before suffering the loss of 3 children and his wife. Yet, Tom managed to keep a clear eye on his life’s purpose. And encourage others to do the same.

Script Details

The right question can turn a problem, into an opportunity. Asked at just the right moment, a question has the power to bring clarity out of chaos, to cut through confusion, to create a way forward where once there was none. And a great mind, curious and determined, asks great questions. Tom Paterson, revered by Peter Drucker as the greatest process thinker in the world, sparked new ways of seeing the world around him. His unique ability to synthesize data and information made him an asset to some of the most innovative minds of the time. But sometimes, life's most difficult questions only lead to more questions. One of the greatest thinkers of his day, Tom found himself successful at consulting, but swallowed up by grief, drowning in alcohol. Desperation led him to a new question, one he hadn't asked before, the kind of question that might save his life. That conversation birthed a unique strategic planning process that Tom tried out with clients like IBM, RCA, and GM. As Tom refined this innovative process, he and Ted created an industry-changing strategic system called StratOp, using inductive logic, and the Socratic method, inviting all viewpoints, minimizing waste, and making the work fun.
