Project Main Details

Narrator for Engaging Historical Documentary
We are seeking a talented narrator to voice an hour-long, educational documentary on the Southern Textile Industry and one of its central figures. The documentary will cover one hundred years of history, from the 1870s to 1970s, and touch upon key events in our history during that time (World Wars, Great Depression, Labor Strikes, Civil Rights, etc), all through the lens of how they impacted, and played out, in the Southern cotton and textile industry. The documentary is comprised of over 14 interviews, with narration to introduce and bridge topics. We estimate of a 57-minute film, approximately half may be narration, give or take a few minutes.

We are looking for a mature, thoughtful and warm voice to impart historic information in an engaging manner. The script ranges from fast-paced and exciting, to somber and demure. We need a voice to guide us through those cadences. The documentary is being produced with the intention of public television broadcast, but also to be distributed to schools, museums, at events, on the web, etc. We hope for a far and wide distribution in any and all mediums now known or hereafter invented -- but always for educational purposes and given to viewers free of charge. This is for a non-profit and will never be sold. Rate will be for buyout, with the liklihood of additional recordings (paid separately) being required for promotional trailers.

Script Details

Death and destruction from the Civil War found the country anxious to move forward. As the nation struggled to recover, the age of the great industrialists in steel, railroads, and other enterprises dawned. But in the American South, life was a daily struggle. Federal troops, Reconstruction, and carpetbaggers controlled the former Confederate states. A greatly depressed economy made the former aristocracy poor and the land poor even poorer.

"In the 1920s, women received the right to vote and Prohibition became the law of the land. The stock market boomed, Bootleggers prospered and the Jazz age ushered in a sense of free spirit. The South surpassed the North in textile manufacturing and the rapidly expanding industry not only changed the way Southerners worked, but the way they lived. Instead of farming and being outside at the call of the seasons, they worked to the rhythm of the weave room. Click clack. Click clack."
