Because of the widely dispersed outlets of IKEA and Intersport, effective and speedy communication of Company news to all our employees had long been a difficult task.
We sought to find a tool that would allow for two-way communication with our people. A tool with which we could share our news, while allowing our employees to come into contact with us and share their ideas, which was actually a key finding in our Annual Employee Survey.
We chose a fresh solution. We decided to proceed with a social network: Yammer by Microsoft. We were surprised to see how the older generations embraced it; something we did not expect, and these people became ambassadors to younger employees.
Yammer is a tool that gives us the opportunity to put forward and promote clever ideas and best practices. In this way, through Yammer, each IKEA store can apply a best practice from another store, implementing what we call Copy With Pride. Example, each and every employee can, through his/her mobile phone, take a photo of a successful display and can post it instantly on Yammer.
With employees from 4 different generations, we had to find a solution, a tool, that would be easy to use for the older generations but attractive enough for the younger employees to ensure that everyone would engage in using it from their personal mobile phone, thus making the flow of information quick and effective.
It is a ‘living’ network, immediate, where everyone can express themselves freely. With Yammer, we succeeded in minimizing the distance between the multiple points of sales of Intersport and The Athlete’s Foot and succeeded in sharing the moment. Moments full of unique experiences and accomplishments of all our employees. Besides, Yammer itself invites you to express yourself freely.
During the three years since we implemented Yammer, we have succeeded in bringing people closer together. It has brought all of us closer together, sharing our accomplishments and ideas so that we can become more effective and successful in achieving the Group’s targets.
