ZD1633937
The entire training series consists of 7 modules, each with several videos within them. This 1st script is part of the Light Module.

Audience:
Clients and employees of the clients who sign up for the training.

Artistic Direction:
We're looking for an authoritative, storytelling voice that is highly engaging while remaining credible

Technical Requirements:
The auditions can simply be mp3 files but we'll need wav files for the final delivery.

Special Requests:
Since this is just the sample sequence for what will be a long series of videos, we expect this project will lead to many more so whoever is chosen for this should be prepared to hear from either myself or various other representatives to record more narration for the rest of this module as well as the other six.

FULL SCRIPT FOR THE LIGHT MODULE SAMPLE (approx: 3min):
In 1882, with the flip of a switch, Edison successfully lit up nearly one square mile of New York City - a square mile that included Grand Central Station and the New York Public Library. It was the launch of a new era of industrial progress and innovation.

After almost a millennium of humans and human ancestors using fire as the primary lighting source, suddenly the human race had electric lights… and we never looked back.

Today, electric light is ubiquitous. It is everywhere, indoors and out, a constant companion. It’s hard to imagine life without it.

And not always for the better.

Alongside plants, fungi, microscopic organisms, and other species of animal, modern human bodies still respond to natural light cycles.

The sun cycles power our circadian rhythms, the sleep-wake cycle that helps to keep you healthy and alert, on an approximately 24-hour pattern. Our eyes respond to light quality and intensity to regulate our ‘body clock’ hormones, most importantly melatonin. Melatonin is our sleep hormone and, when it is elevated, we feel sleepy. In response to the rising and setting of the sun, our body naturally produces cortisol in the morning and releases melatonin at night. The small boost of cortisol in the morning produces a temporary increase in our energy levels, helping us to wake up. Exposure to light during the day helps suppress melatonin, allowing us to feel energized and productive. Finally, the darkness at night allows you to, yet again, produce melatonin leading to a restful night’s sleep..

The circadian system is sensitive to all types of light, not just the natural lighting from the sun. Exposure to artificial light can impact your bodily rhythms, influencing your sleep-wake cycle as well.

Human eyes and brains have not yet evolved to manage lighting in the modern world, that doesn’t align our circadian rhythms, and we won’t be changing any time soon: Evolution takes a lot longer than 150 years.

Scientists know that the constantly illuminated 21st century is having a profound impact on human health.

Though the impacts of artificial light exposure are still being researched, it is known that ill-timed light could negatively affect your body chemistry.

But the effects of light on your body go much further than that. The circadian system doesn’t just wake you up and put you to sleep. It can influence many aspects of your biology and behavior, including an estimated 10% of your genome. That’s your DNA: the blueprint of who you are!

Light has a profound impact on your overall well-being: how you feel, act, and function. And the amount and variation in types of light you live and work with every day are unprecedented in human history. Indeed, in the history of Planet Earth.

Feature: Circadian Lighting Design
You've learned how light influences your circadian rhythm.
Circadian Lighting Design promotes health and wellness by mimicking daylight. It makes inside more like outside. Increased lighting frequency and intensity helps to keep you alert, and helps keep your sleep-wake cycles in sync with the sun.
Studies have shown that sleep improves when more light is present during the day.
