For this year’s grant competition, we’re doing something special, as C3 is celebrating its 10th anniversary. We’re challenging students to submit proposals for project ideas that address this year’s new theme of “Making Lives Better.” Your proposal should be inspired by these three broad categories that tie in to the overall theme, and they are:
Driving Social Mobility
Changing the Way People Move through Smart Mobility
and, Building Sustainable Communities
What do all of these categories mean? Let me provide some context for each.
If you’re creating a project that addresses social mobility, your idea may propose a solution that provides economic empowerment to a community in need, like designing a program that assists first-generation college students, helping them succeed in school.
What do we mean by smart mobility? You may have heard our Executive Chairman, Bill Ford, talking about autonomous vehicles—which would definitely improve lives. You may have an idea that would make our transportation system more efficient, or user-friendly. Or, maybe you’ve got an idea for a ride-share app. Use these concepts as inspiration for your own project!
Finally, the last category is building sustainable communities. Ask yourself, “What would make my community thrive?” Is it a book-share program to promote literacy for youth in low-income communities? Are you looking to use goats to combat overpopulation of invasive species in a local park? We’re challenging you to think big.
So, now that I’ve covered the theme and the categories to inspire your projects, I want to share another element that we’ve introduced to celebrate 10 years. If you’re selected to receive a winning grant, and if your project specifically addresses the solution utilizing mobility, you’ll have an opportunity to present your idea live to a panel of judges for a chance to win a mobility solution and other resources to further the impact of your project – which is really exciting!
So, if you think you’ve got a $25,000 idea, get your Ford C3 proposal submitted by April 26. You can also visit fordblueovalnetwork (dot) org for more information.
