Good Friday Prologue ZD2205211
For our Good Friday services this year we are creating a short film that tells the story of the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). We are looking for a wise narrator who can tell us the story of this most important day. Think of the most beloved history professor you ever had and picture them telling us this story. We don't want anything over-dramatized or promotional. Instead, we want a thoughtfully paced reading that draws the listener in, eager to hear what's coming next. Although the script does not read that long, the total film length will be around 6 minutes. It will be shown at our Good Friday services next week and steamed live on the internet at the same time. After the services are over it will be available to stream on-demand from our website.

Throughout history, God’s consistent faithfulness and provision toward his people prompted the creation of many festivals.
Each of these was marked by feasting, celebration, and thanksgiving.
But one day stood apart from all the rest.
One day each year was marked not by celebration, but by solemnity, by lament, by mourning.
This was the holiest day of the year.
Long ago, God made a promise to his people: He would dwell among them.
His holiness made its home within the temple, cloaked within the Holy of Holies, shrouded behind a heavy curtain.
One day each year the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies to make amends for the sins of God's children.
This was called the Day of Atonement.
But first, the high priest needed to prepare himself to enter God’s holy presence. He had to be cleansed. He had to be humbled.
The high priest was often resplendent, dressed in flowing robes made of the finest threads, dyed in brilliant colors, encrusted with gold and glittering gemstones.
He was clothed in the garments of a king.
But on the the Day of Atonement, the priest removed his kingly robes, laying aside his splendor.
Then he bathed, using water to wash away his impurities.
Finally, he put on new garments of white linen. His clothing for this solemn day was marked by simplicity and humility.
