Script Details

We are public power. We power strong communities. We help make America great! Let’s tell Congress and Washington, D.C. to power us with laws that make sense. Right now, we need to talk to them about six issues that matter. (BREAK/NEW PARAGRAPH) Tax-exempt muni bonds help us create new electricity infrastructure to the tune of 11 billion dollars a year. We must fight to protect public power’s ability to build with bonds. Don’t cap or eliminate our future with municipal bonds. Let’s tell the Administration to stop cuts to Build America Bond payments and tell Congress no more payment cuts to bond issuers. Public power utilities support solar and other forms of electricity generated by customers. But all customers who benefit from the grid, must help maintain and pay for it. Our rates must be set at the local level. A one-size-fits-all approach does not work. Tell Congress not to interfere or federalize this issue. (BREAK/NEW PARAGRAPH) Public power’s ability to supply or buy its own generation is no longer protected. This means customers could see their electricity bills go up, and the local economy hurt. Tell your members of Congress how the problems in these markets can hurt your community’s homes and businesses. (BREAK/NEW PARAGRAPH) The Trump Administration may roll back the Clean Power Plan and Waters of the U.S. regulations, among many others. We must support common-sense regulatory reform, while ensuring the communities and businesses we serve continue to have affordable, reliable, and environmentally responsible power. (BREAK/NEW PARAGRAPH) The electric grid faces many threats, everything from furry little squirrels to weather. Our industry and the government must continue to work together in order to prevent and also respond to cyber-attacks. Bills were passed in 2015 to share information, and protect our liability and sensitive information. Let’s demand that they be implemented right. (BREAK/NEW PARAGRAPH) The federal power program provides wholesale hydropower, at cost, to tens of millions of Americans. Previous Congresses and Administrations have tried to modify this program. Their plans could have significantly driven up public power rates. We must advocate to preserve supply from federal dams. Our customers depend on us for low-cost and dependable electricity. (BREAK/NEW PARAGRAPH) Let’s make our voices heard on these issues, as we continue to power strong communities; standup for our customers; and make America great.
