CHEF STORIES ZD3002521
This project is about the idea of inspiration told through the voices of incredibly experienced chefs. The roles you are reading for will be the chefs who are sharing their intimate thoughts about their stories and journey. Chefs are likable and creative and have genuine perspective and point of view, but they are necessarily opinionated, )they like things done their way), and can be enigmatic and difficult to know - so an 'edge' to the voice is welcomed. This is a documentary - so this should feel intimate and thoughtful (giving us their perspective after years of thinking about this) - but this should avoid feeling too dreamy, or like poetry night at the coffee shop. (What would Bordain say?) This is for a presentation reel and will be seen by many major networks.

CHEF #1 Starting out as a chef in NY, you might as well be a cab driver. Work all hours of the night, have thousands of nameless people passing through your place of work who don't know you exist. You're a ghost. But as you master the place, the side streets, the tunnels, you become less invisible. And the energy of the place becomes part of you and pushes you to become more than yourself. CHEF #2 Mike and I came up together. But he was kind of like the brother I never had and I thanked god for it. Mike was competitive. When we were on the line together he told me there was no Korean food in the Midwest so I should probably give the fuck up. A few weeks later I burned myself pretty bad and he gave me a look like 'had enough?' The guy taught me everything I know and I hated him for it. CHEF #3: The best thing about ___ is there is no food scene here. Just food. I worked summers here not really sure what to expect. The first time I met Otto he told me two things: 1) Pull your hair back. And 2) smoke is the key to life. Now I come here for an afternoon in disguise, just for the smoke, and then I leave like it's some holy ritual made just for me.
